I'm currently looking into a Polk Audio RM-6750 5.1 home theater speaker system and was wondering if anyone here has any experience with the company or this setup in particular. From what I can tell it's a lower-end setup, most reviews indicate good quality, but somewhat low power capability, which is not a big concern for me as my living room is quite small.

I'm torn between a new/refurb setup from Polk or picking up a Harman-Kardon HKTS-6 used that is in like-new condition, the price is pretty close. I'm currently running a Harman-Kardon AVR 340 amp (likely picking up an AVR 347 w/HDMI in the near future), is there any advantage to using speakers made by the same company that built the amp?

Thanks in advance.
Will

All things considered, I think both are a very good value, short of buying used, which can be an unnecessary gamble.

I own an AVR 347 (wonderful AVR) which we use in the family room which is quite large, and even with the satellite h/k speakers, it sounds just fine.

Onkyo also makes some very feature rich, excellent value minded receivers that are worth checking out as well. 👍

None that have any impact on performance, and in most cases, none in terms of convenience... but you can often get a better deal on a full system, so it's at least worth comparing prices.

I just bought the rm95 pack from polk. I think its a step or two above the one you're looking at. I really like the sound of my polk's. The only problems I have with the small speakers is, they lack the midrange of larger speakers, and the spring clips are the worst I have ever encountered.
The lack of midrange was expected though, You really can't expect 2, 2 1/2 inch woofers to really put out much bass. The sub I got was the psw111. Really for the size of the speakers and the price, they sound better then I thought they would.

I assume your looking on polk direct at the speakers. I wish I would have known about that ebay store before I bought my setup. There are some great refurbish deals on their. I could have got a really nice system if I would have known about it.

For the price I would recommend the speakers, but I have never heard that model of polks.

I bought mine for a starter kit, and they should work perfect for surrounds. I plan on getting the polk RTi A5 floor speakers whenever they hit polk direct. I'll probably get the RTi series center channel too, to complete the 7.1.

May I also suggest taking a look at the Denon entry level receivers as well, the AVR-1909 fits into a similar price range and is a stunning piece of kit.

I can vouch for the 1909 as well. I took scaff's advice and bought one. It works very well with my polks. The only problem I had with it was the lack of pre outs, to use to hook up an external amp. It would put out plenty of power for those speakers though. I certainly don't need an amp for the polk rm8's that I have. The receiver does the job just fine.

I bought my receiver from here http://www.digitalmegastore.com/Product_list/?&cart_id=33091486
The price has went up about 40$ though since I ordered mine. None of the receivers on that site has a warranty, but you can buy a 3 year one for 60$. Either way it's still a good deal.3

The link I gave didn't work just then. If you have any trouble with it, the name of the site is digital mega store, but I'm sure you figured that out from the link. They had the best customer service I have ever dealt with. I have only dealt with them once, but I would highly recommend them for AV receivers.

Come to think of it, you could probably here those speakers at best buy. They carry some of the lower end polk.

Another vote for the Denon 1909. I bought a Onkyo 606 but gave that to my brother and replaced it with the Denon.

Excellent advice about the Denon, I'll keep that in mind in the next couple months when I upgrade.

Polk is excellent in my opinion. Not sure about the home audio but I have been running polk audio for my automotive installs for over 10 years and have been very impressed. 👍

Was wondering if you had bought your speakers yet.

bevo, funny that you mention that. I bought a Harman Kardon HKTS7 set from their Ebay site for $148 shipped. I just got them and set them up a couple hours ago:), so I haven't had a lot of time with them yet. So far I like them, and my neighbors do not!👍

To be honest with you I wasn't planning on doing any of this and didn't even check Polk before I bought. :dunce: I couldn't resist the deal, it allowed me to upgrade my receiver to one with HDMI capability for not too much more than I was originally going to spend for just speakers. Coming from the Kinyo (who?) speaker setup I've been using, anything was going to sound better. I figured I might as well start at the low end of the middle, so to speak.

Thanks for asking.
