Lumina ss crash

When you said Lumina SS my thoughts immediately went to the Monte Carlo/Lumina we got in the states for whatever reason. In fact, a black Lumina dressed like the Monte SS.

Even though it's upside down, that Lumina looks way cooler than any Lumi... uh, Commodore down here.

congratulations, you've just introduced americans to the "Name discontinued in the US, given to the rest of the world" idea...at least to those of us who didn't allready know about it.

it's still odd to see the Chevy Bowtie outside the states.

i think they cut in too tight coming around the curve. btw, that also looks like a typical american crash...in a minivan :P

:)Thats the name its marketed under here: Chevrolet Lumina SS.
I know these 'Utes' are extremely popular in Australia and they have a good following here too.

It does look insane, does'nt it:)

That Skyline, by the way, was built in Japan by Top Secret and broke the course record! Thats crazy considering this event is mainly for exotics like Lambo's, Ferraris, Porsches etc.

Wait, Smokey Nagata had a car there? geez, that guy's getting everywhere..

The car was built by Mr Nagata in Japan for Dez Gutzeit who went up to Japan, chose a stock GTR from Nissan and dropped it off at Top Secret. It's pushing out 1012hp!

Which is the whole reason they still exist. :)

It beat that Ultima GTR posted above too? Cool.

Yep, beat the orange Ultima(original V8 setup) and a red Ultima which is normally top dog - it runs an Alfa gtv6 twin turbo engine.

Which is the whole reason they still exist.

Yeah, you guys are known to be "Ute" fanatics, so are we:) - in fact we used to export the South African built 3.0 litre Ford Cortina utes to Oz in the 80's. Remember them?

The Lumina Utes we get now are built in Australia.

No, I have never seen one, got a pic? I have never seen a 3.0l version either, all our later Cortinas are 2.0 (4cyl) 3.3 (6cyl) 4.1 (6cyl).

I am quite sure our Ford Focus's are built in South Africa at the moment.

The Lumina Utes we get now are built in Australia.

Yeah, about 30km's from my house. :)

I assume you guys get the VE Comm... Lumina's now too?

The Commodore is one of the most popular cars here in Australia, and there are Lumina (SS) models of that too.

What the hell are people doing on the outside of the apex? I wouldn't stand there if you paid me.

Theres a big furore about those incidents in SA currently. Crowd control was poor and concrete barriers which normally are present at KOTM, was not this year. It was an official Motorsport SA event.

looks like i wasn't the only one thinking "lumina ute" I was gonna make a Phantom out of an old US Lumina coupe. cut the back window out, stretch the trunk zone about 4 feet...the only problem would be rigging up a tailgate.

I think the Commodore Ute is the one they tried to base the pontiac one off of?

Cortinas make lousy utes, from the look of it. like they bummed too much design idea from american pickups :P ugh.
