There's apparently going to be a lunar eclipse tonight...

Some News Place In Indiana
Forecasters are calling for partly cloudy skies tonight, but if the clouds break, be sure to look heavenward to see a total lunar eclipse.

That happens when the Earth travels between the moon and the sun, throwing a shadow across the moon.

The action will start at 8:45 p.m., according to a news release from SpaceTech Corp., with the total eclipse at 10 p.m.

And if you do get to a spot away from the bright lights, you might see that satellite that's about to crash back to Earth.

Satellite USA 193 will be faint but visible low in the northwestern sky from 7:37 to 7:39 p.m.

Like I said this is news from Indiana so adjust your times accordingly for wherever you are if you want to see this.

I might have to dig out the tripod and clean off the memory card tonight.

whoa...a lunar eclipse. never seen one before...might try to look for it today...thanks for the info Loon!

8:01-8:52pm Here, wish I had a tripod, but the ones I can buy are too expensive for now, or too cheaply made to justify purchasing. Guess I'll have to shoot handhold like I always do at night.

Are you speaking in terms of the start of the partial eclipse, or the start of the full eclipse process?

In Toronto, the sky is 70 percent clear, and the partial starts at 8:42, then the moon passes through the Sun's shadow from 10:00-10:51.

No Problem.👍
It was even sunny today for it!

Too bad it's cloudy now :grumpy:.
Its perfect here, not a cloud in the sky, plus being out in the booneys I don't have to worry about city lights ruining it.
Indiana is where they have their own loony time zone isn't it?
I suppose so.

And I think its finally started here, the bottom left of the moon appears to be disappearing a little.

Supposed to be able to see it here too. Unfortunately I won't have a view of it from my dorm window - will have to go out and get frozen.

Same here, earlier I was able to look out and see it fine, but its now made its way in front of some trees so I have to go outside to check it out. I've took some shots of what it looks like now but they don't look great.

Sometimes a use a gas-powered tripod: Car roofs, trunks, back glass, and windshields come in handy every so often...

I'm counting down the next hour, to be honest.

Should be pretty cool, Im not really into astrology that much but any type of eclipse interests me, I should be taking a bunch of pictures tonight.

We have a clear night here, it's sort of cool I guess.

Its about gone for me, the right side of the moon is brighter than the left.

I got some pics but they arent on my computer yet. Just wondering what would be good settings to shoot with? I tried a deeper DOF, and a shallower one, the shallower seemed to be better

I actually use my car roof a lot, but the moons above me, not in front where my camera is pointing.

I just came back in since it's a bit too cold even with my leather gloves and snowboarding jacket, wind picked up quite a bit too, and none of my photos came out at all.

For some reason I was expecting something really crazy even though a google images told me beforehand it wasn't anything crazy.

It was cloudy here and there, but I managed a few pics:

Awesome pics, Pupik. Every time I took a shot, it was either underexposed or the clouds got in the way during the exposure.

It was kind of neat just sitting on a foldout chair in the middle of my parking lot watching the clouds go by though. It kind of made me think of all the places where sitting out alone in a parking lot would mean suicide.

It was actually clear. That was pretty lucky because it isn't clear here that much and to have it fall on an eclipse. I see it was clear in Seattle too, and for that to happen on the same night here is crazy.

That was something really cool to see.

And great shots, Pupik.
