A new "smart" lung cancer drug is currently undergoing large-scale testing after FDA approval) as an alternative to chemotherapy. The once-daily pill Tarceva "blocks the action of a molecule called an epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) which relays instructions to cells to grow and divide," according to Yahoo News.

Good news for smokers.

It would be really funny if it could be bought in a spray form then those people who smoked could put that right on their cigarettes.

Or "Thalidomide", as it's better known

And it's "Epithelial Growth Factor"...

Which reminds me - I'm almost out of smokes... Fark... BRB !!!!!!!

You didn't make the mistake, skip. You copied it from Yahoo! News, who made the mistake.

EGF promotes growth of blood vessels - angiogenesis - amongst other things. This is why Thalidomide - an EGF blocker - was so catastrophic on unborn foetuses. It inhibited the growth of blood vessels to newly forming limbs... Tumours promote angiogenesis, so that they can get their own blood supply. The maximum size of a tumour with no blood supply is 2cm. By inhibiting this mechanism, you can keep the size of the tumour nice and small, less proliferative and less likely to become malignant.

That's only ONE effect though.

Great, now smokers have another excuse to not quit smoking. If they get Lung Cancer, they could just use this! :grumpy:

But that's only the stupid smokers, though. Who cares about them, anyway. Much like the idiots who don't use condoms because they think there's a cure for AIDS.

So what would be the likely side effects of this drug?

"Flipper babies" was one of the reasons Thalidomide was taken off the market.

Anyone ever seen "A Young Poisoner's Handbook?"
