SPY PHOTOS: New Audi RS6
Powered by V10 turbo

Audi is completing the A6 range with the RS6 as an direct competitor to BMW’s M5. Don’t get fooled by the S6 stickers on this Audi. This is the brand new and still secret RS6. The bigger air intakes in the front bumper and the two big oval exhaust pipes are the key clues. While the S models have four round exhaust pipes, the RS models have two oval pipes as their distinguishing feature.

Shown in these spy photos is the Avant (station wagon), but it will also be available as a saloon. Powered by the same V10 engine as the S6, but with some help from a turbo delivering about 550 bhp, this Audi will give the M5 and E63 AMG a strong challenge. The RS6 will debut in Geneva in March 2007.

Awesomeness. The ubersedan competition is getting hot! I'd like to see a comparison between this, the M5, the E63 AMG and the upcoming Porsche Panamera!

Thats a family car! This segment seems to be growing pretty fast. I'm not complaining! Apparently there is a sedan version of the Veyron in the works (don't know how much I trust that rumor) and, I believe, and Aston? I'm excited to see what's going to happen with these cars

No there's a targa version of the Veyron in the works, there may well be a Bugatti sedan in the planning stages but it can't be Veyron based, the Veyron chassis simply isn't big enough nor can it be modified enough to make a 4 seater, but I wouldn't put them using the W16 engine out of the equation. There is a 4 door Aston DB9 being sorted called the Aston Martin Rapide, which is a name from the past.

And the prize for "Worst Car to Integrate a Styling Element from a Late-90s Jeep" goes to the Audi RS6!

That kind of hood vent is not cool.

temporary testing styling. Alot of high performance models have unsightly stuff like that whilst being tested

Ahh, otherwise it looks very slick.

Nice to see Audi is taking the performance envelope in a different direction with the V10.

You know, after seeing "M5 eater caught testing" in the forum directory, I knew it was you posting about some Audi.

It is some Audi though. Its a shame they dont sell any RS4 Avant.

Edit: Toronado, I know they did, but not anymore. The RS4 Avant is my favorite Audi in GT4.

I think the front is a little gaudy, but it otherwise looks nice. Heres hoping they can fix the problems with the last RS6.

They used to, but not anymore. The original RS4 was wagon only.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I think to use the term "underwhelming" is a bit strong to describe the newest S6, but I have to say that I was a bit dissapointed, even with the big V10 power under the hood.

...Hopefully Audi will sort it out, as the RS4 is undoubtedly one of the best cars you can buy right now. The looks are pretty good, and I'd be interested to see a sedan, as that would be the only version we would see in the United States.

If I may for a moment, I'd like to point out that this is going to be more of a CLS63 fighter than an M5 compeditor. On terms of size and performance (based off the S6), shes going to be a Bahn-Burner with a taste for the twisties... But with the previous RS6 still being held in such high reguard as the car that conquered the M5 and E55, this new RS6 has a lot to live up to, and I'm not sure how it will work out...

(Time Will Tell?)

supposedly it will be released at geneva or frankfurt. Audi have a history of havinbg weird ways to try and fool spy pic snappers.

I must say this disguise is quite clever. Just by looking at the car, I think many would be fooled & say its just an S6.

The track looks too narrow for a RS6. The last RS6 had blistered arches for the wider rubber.

lol the RS6 doesnt replace the S6. The RS6 is a model above just like how a S4 and RS4 co-exist. Also they are trying to make it look like a S6 hence no flared wheel arches etc. Also why would they be testing a S6 when thats been out for ages. You can buy a second hand S6 already.

Holden was replying to the people thinking it was the new S6, the S6 is still pretty new in terms of a car models lifetime so it doesn't need replacing which means it's not that likely to be an S6 test mule and more likely to be an RS6 test mule. Theres a few detials on this that hint at it being an RS6 over an S6, some highlighted in the first post such as the exhausts better cooling ect.

Anyone else notice that those are technically stolen pictures? It specifically asks you don't post them elsewhere than where requested...

Hans is going force you to drive an old NSU for your crime, Pov.

...in America. There is a cab and Avant version sold overseas.

Are you sure that's the RS6? This is the best photo of the badge, and it appears to read "S6", making this just an S6 Avant. Wouldn't a RS6 be a bit more disguised, considering it won't be officially released for some time?

Well since they can have a car that would look very close to the final RS6 (the S6), and can still hold the necessary hardware, why would they parade a highly-disguised car around the Nurburgring that would attract the attention of every camera-holding bozo standing around?

I've changed my mind. I no longer think it's an S6 Avant, but not for those ^ reasons. Someone mentioned the lack of the LED foglights (which both the Sedan & Avant have), and I just noticed the vents in the bonnet, which I must have been blind to before. I doubt the vents will stay; at least not as they are now -- those are seriously ugly, and very un-Audi. Since the body of the S6 is almost identical to the RS6, it's a simple matter of swapping wheels & badges and -- presto -- S6 Avant (which is out in Europe, isn't it?).

Why the RS# cars don't have the cool LED's is beyond me. They don't add much menace, but the sure as heck stand out. I think the RS# should have had them, and the S# should be without.

It's too bad that Audi dosent offer the avant versions of its RS cars here in the U.S. Wagons make more practical sense than sedans do, and they tend to have a more sleeper look to them, kinda like my dad's Magnum SRT8:D

Auf weidersehn!:)

Yeah, there are also some other subtle differences between the S6 & this car. 1. The S badge is closer to the edge of the grille on the S6. 2. The S6 has little gizmo squares beneath the lights and above the bottom grille dealyo. 3. The light area beneath the plate on the grille is not on the S6. 4. This car looks a little higher.

Looking forward to the RS6.

Well I think it is more of the fact that many Americans still have that ongoing hatred for what are baisically station wagons. The last of them died in 1997, and up untill a few years ago, you could only find them at your local European car dealer. Dodge was daring and went with the Magnum, something different, something that seemed "dangerous" despite the fact that it was a station wagon.

...Public opinion of station wagons is changing here in America, slowly, as I belive it will be our generation (X&Y) that will make the cars popular again...

Don't forget the Taurus. It's been available in a wagon version for quite a while. It looks horrible in wagon form.
