i have a question about macromedia (flash mx, fireworks mx, etc.). i was wondering if you could do any photoshop-like editing with any macromedia programs (particularly flash mx) using layers? tools? other? i dont have photoshop so i wanted to know if that would do the trick.

thanks,

Yes, Fireworks is the most compared with Adobe Photoshop, though some people may say it's better and some may say it sucks.

Macromedia does make some very fine products. 👍

Moving to "Digital Art Help". Beamer2 the "Questions and Comments" forum is for questins and comments pertaining to GTPlanet.

To give my $0.02 on the question: I find that Fireworks is excellent (and I mean excellent) for creating original graphics. If you're wanting to amend pre-existing graphics (photo editing, for example), Photoshop is the king, but I think you can get much of the functionality in Paint Shop Pro, which is considerably cheaper.

so your saying fireworks is capable of creating images like the ones done by photoshop? wow. i thought fireworks was used for different purposes. hmmm, ill experiment with it for a while. thanks guys. if you have any other tips on how to create such images using fireworks, i would be more than happy to hear them.

Well, I use Fireworks to create buttons and stuff for my web site. It has all sorts of tools for web developers - like automatically creating rollover images.

what exactly does the magic wand tool do? every time i select an area(of a car, for example) the whole program gets really slow and doesnt let me select anything else.

The magic wand selects the area that is the same colour as the pixel upon which you clicked, according to a definable threshold. So, if you have a flat white square with a 2-pixel black border, you could select the border by clicking on it with the wand tool.
