But the same game on the 360 runs at 60fps and has better lighting and softer shadows.

This is unacceptable. This is the second generatin of sports games EA has made for the PS3. There is no excuses this time. Sony's NBA '07 runs at 1080p and 60 fps. Madden is 720p and can only manage 30 fps.

Most of us paid over $600 to get the most advanced system to enjoy the very best in gaming. Instead we're getting terrible ports from the 360.

I am a huge Madden and NCAA football fan but after reading how it is only 30fps compared to the 360's 60fps I refuse to buy an inferior product. I may wait and buy them used so EA doesn't get any of my money. But you will still be playing an inferior prodcut.

How does EA get away with this? Why do we let them get away with this?

Why do we let them get away with this?

Because most of people buying this game don't even know what 30fps is.

It is sad that 85% more expensive system gives you 85% of 360s performance. So we have to wait for sony to make american football game then.(i know ea has the only license though)

It looks like the only hope for a good American football game is when EA losses their exclusive NFL license in 2009

EA Sports games are ****. Period.

So if the EA 360 sports games are ****, what does that make the EA PS3 sports games?

Don't answer that.

Because most of EA's current clientele would buy Madden like a bunch of blathering idiots and call it the best sports game ever even if it was actually a copy of Madden '97. And that would be regardless of if they had any competition.

So, does this mean that All-Pro Football 2k8 is no good?

No, it doesn't, but I had always preferred EA's style of football. Their football games got better and better eventually reaching the series peak in Madden 2004.

The very next year they signed an exclusive deal with the NFL, and guess what. Then the series started it's freefall. Madden 2005 wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. There were plenty of times I wanted to go back to 2004.

I was an EA 'zombie' and bought Madden 2006. Huge mistake. I forced myself to play the game maybe 1 hour. It was terrible. It felt slow, it, it just wasn't right. It wasn't fun like 2004. I skipped on 2007 altogether after renting it for a mind-blowing 2 hours before returning it. I had just spent $650 on the PS3 and my brother saw the game and said "That's PS3?" And he started laughing like crazy. It was embarrasing.

I'm sure All-Pro Football 2K8 is a good game, but I'd prefer to have real teams and the old madden gameplay. The 2K series would be a much bigger threat to Madden if it had current NFL teams and rosters, thus the reason why this exclusive license EA has ruined both games in alot of areas.

Competition is great, though. I doubt we would see Playstation HOME if it weren't for Xbox Live, but at the moment this exclusive license EA has with the NFL is crippling football games for both Madden and the 2K series.

I felt both games had their positives and negatives, but at less than half the price the 2k series just was better value. I noticed they didn't do that with All-Pro though.

I always found the NFL/ESPN 2K Football games by Visual Concept to be superior to EA's Madden series... although I preferred EA's NCAA Football series over Visual Concept's NCAA College Football 2K3... so what do I know?

I am some what tempted to pick up All-Pro Football 2K8. Sure, thanks to EA it doesn't have licensed teams, and they have dropped some of the gameplay features that they used to have in the 2K series... but the opportunity to have a team and play against teams filled from a pool of 240 famous all-pro players throughout the history of the NFL is pretty cool.

One thing though is pretty creepy is that they not only included OJ Simpson, but they have a team called.... the Slashers, and they are located in... Los Angeles... but wait... it get so much worse.

Watch the following trailer and see what the Slasher mascot looks like, and what the giant mechanical version of it located above the scoreboard does when someone on that team scores a TD.

👎

(GameTrailers has an HD version of that clip, as well as several other clips from the game, here's the LINK.)

I think part of the problem is that the developers have to make the game for both Xbox 360 and PS3 which limits the opportunity for amazing visuals for the playstation version.

Yeah...that's not true. EA is just lazy.

Both things are partially true. The first one explains why All Pro 2K8 is 30fps on PS3 and 60fps on PS3. The second one applies to most EA Sports titles in general.

Yahoo gave Madden '08 5 out of 5

It's obvious he was playing the 360 version, though

yahoo.com review
This is because the game runs at a buttery smooth 60 frames per second

Too bad the PS3 version runs at a abrasive 30fps

As for developers having to make games for both systems, how can a developer of EA's size struggle to get the premier sports title on any console to work at 60fps on the most advanced next gen console?

I'll answer myself

  • Laziness
  • Peter Moore
  • Money spent on advertisements, exclusive licenses takes away money that could be spent on development
  • Time spent making Madden for the PS2, Xbox 360, PSP, Wii, Nintendo DS and PC takes away time needed for devloping on the PS3's 7 cores

Considering it took three Maddens to get to 60fps on 360 when on PS2 it was 60fps on the get-go, yup.

Peter Moore

Eh, I doubt it. I don't think he'd sabotage only the PS3 version of Madden.

EA isn't strapped with cash. The simple fact that they recently raised their shares in Ubisoft possibly for preparation of a hostile takeover is proof of that.

Time spent making Madden for the PS2, Xbox 360, PSP, Wii, Nintendo DS and PC takes away time needed for devloping on the PS3's 7 cores

You forgot cell phones, original Xbox and the GameCube. :P

They still make games for the original xbox? I thought it was dead.

and cell phones? you can't be serious lol

anyways, I can't wait to see how the reviews of the 360 and PS3 version stack up. I'm still passing on buying it brand new, just for 30fps alone

I don't see a problem with OJ in the game. He was found innocent (whether he truly is is pure speculation for anyone but hmself) and as such there is no reason to not include him, other than to just duck controversy.

As for the Slasher team, I found it kind of funny. It made me think of Baseketball, especially the mascot. I remember the Beers mascot on the front of the stadium chugging a beer and then puking.

I am assuming you missed the Game Trailers video called "Taking the Dogs Out" with created player Michael Vick on the Bulldogs team.

One thiong to remember about these videos is that GameTrailers.com users, not 2k Sports has created them and someone purposely put OJ on The Slashers to make the joke.

Actually, legally he was found guilty, only not in the criminal case (AKA 'The Circus'), but in the wrongful death civil case.

Besides... you are going to have a very hard time finding many people... including OJ Simpson that still say he he didn't do it.

Yes, but 2K Sports put in a team called The Slashers... conveniently located in Los Angeles... and they made the mascot to look almost exactly like the artist rendering of what the prosecution believed how OJ was dressed and the knife he was armed with at the time of the double murder... right down to the now infamous black gloves. Any chance this is just a coincidence is as likely as OJ not being the person who murdered Nicole and Ronald Goldman.

That said, at least the word is that all proceeds that OJ earned from 2K Sports will be confiscated and awarded to Ronald Goldman's family. 👍

EA's got a monopoly on the NFL license and that sucks... Competition only makes games better because the companys work harder to get you to buy their game and not the competitors... but without a competitor, EA can slack off and put out a shiznitty game and people will still pay to buy it because it is the only one out there which is just ridiculous!!! EA sucks... and i hate how gamespot takes just EA games when they decide to do the "Graphics Showdown" or whatev they call it between the PS3 and 360... pisses me off...

Yep, The year 2K Football out sells madden was the year EA desperately took the license.

Even the Wii/PS2 versions are 60fps. I dont see why we should complain about the frame rate and bash all EA's efforts. I wouldn't enjoy the game if it were 120fps. It still plays the same.

Makes you wonder what's next, especially with peter moore at the helm

And even if they fixed problems like 30fps on the PS3 Madden 2004 on the PS2 is still a better game than any next gen football game that've sputtered out on any system

I played EA's NCAA 2008 demo last night and omg...

I was playing the game in 720p resolution but some of screens menus and loading screens looked like they were 480i..the words were barely readable..anyone who plays the demo can attest to this

as for the actual game, it looks like PS2 graphics but in a higher resolution with slightly more polygons in the players models, especially around the face

that's it.

It's not a huge jump like GT4 to GT5 or Killzone 1 to killzone 2 or even madden ps1 to madden 2001 for the PS2.

It's just higher resolution and a bit more detail here and there.

EA sucks so bad now-adays.

Man, can this be real? If so, how much lower EA can go? to M$ level? Is Peter Moore beginning to do his damage?

http://www.ps3center.net/story-821.html

I don't think photoshopping a photo that represents all next-gen systems to make it look better is because of Peter Moore. Now, since the Madden franchise is supposed to be platform agnostic next year, if Madden 09 is crap on 360 and really crap on PS3, then you can go out and blame Peemo and co.

What you linked to shows how poor EA Sports is. Nothing more, nothing less.

The best part is that they don't realize they're buying the exact same game every single year. Sure, they add a bunch of pointless crap each time, but that's like buying another copy of GT4 because they upgraded the car wash and added a new gas station feature.

Totally forgot about that infamous trailer :indiff: EA is realy a piece of junk now.And for what they're doing to us the gamers, let's spread bad news about them as much as possible.:sly:

About Peter Moore thing, I was only joking, this guy is capable of far more than that when it comes to ruin things.

True, the average person hasnt got a clue about the differences between the 360 and ps3 or the games, they just think its all next gen and dont notice the differences, all the see is the price... hell, some dont even get what high definiton is or what on earth the numbers mean! Its all next gen to them.....

....this really pisses me off because then people like EA dont bother using the PS3's power... it is really unacceptable, they totally suck, the only thing I liked from them was NFS but they ruined that aswell... it really looks like so far the only games worth buying on ps3 are first party and a select few games developed on ps3 then ported....

Good thing im not into sports games which EA seem to have there finger in every single bloody one....

Well this just says it all then! its probably going to be like this for the next 10 years! Oh well no buying EA games then!:grumpy:

Where did you read that the X360 has a 5x larger users base (like PS2 VS Xbox) and will be around for ten more years? ;)

Oh god not with the 10 year life span BS. They said those same words with the PS1 and PS2, and all it means is that they're producing hardware and accessories and providing consumer support and the like for 10 years. PS1 production ended a little over a year ago. Does that mean it was relevant in the whole PS2 vs GCN vs Xbox debate with many major 1st and 3rd party titles releasing on it for that long? Heck no.

PS3 has a third of the userbase of 360, 360 keeps outselling it worldwide on a monthly basis, lead will extend this fall with cheaper price and the obvious titles looming (one which will push a ton of consoles), 360 owners generally eat up software titles like crazy compared to PS3 and Wii owners, etc etc etc. Of course the overwhelming majority of 3rd parties are going to put the 360 version of their games before anything else! The best you can hope for in the coming future is for developers to be platform agnostic like Infinity Ward and the odd few who's lead platform for their games is PS3 like Criterion.

As for EA's game suckage, you do have to admit their non-sports titles are, at the very least, really promising. Rock Band, Army of Two, Battlefield: BC, and Crysis are either published or developed internally by EA. Granted, if you're a PS3-only owner then I guess you have some basis for a total boycott, but still.
