Do you guys want to re-value the awesome and marvelous thing GT5 really is?
I must admit that I whined a lot about some things that GT5 got wrong, but found the magic cure to see them as marginal insignificant details:
Play Need for Speed Shift 2, or any other "new" racing game in a console.
Honestly, that was the best thing I could do.
When I saw the fat annoying guy on 3DO like video sequences saying: "Man, this is some sick machine I drive" with that peculiar emphasis, I thought that jazz music on the background and some spec reading is a little bit, just a little bit more classy.
When I "drove" the "cars", I enjoyed the crashes as in a roller coaster freak ride, yeah pretty cool if you want to simulate an ACID RUSH or something, but I rather have bouncing off the wall.
When I saw the bikini girls with the flags every time a race starts, well, I thought, these guys got some class, wow. I rather have carton crowds.
When I saw that you can buy with real money the cars in the game instead of earning them, wow, I rather grind Indy, and thank the Japanese for reminding us that things should get done with effort, and that money is not the be all end all solution in life.
Really, the examples could go on forever and with many other racing games on PS3, I can't believe I actually fell to the hype.
Fool me once, shame on you EA, fool me twice, shame on me.
Honestly, I can't believe that people took Shift 2 seriously, I had huge laughs at the vulgarity, drug-addict rush ambience, and people calling it a real car game that is out to get GT5.
That was as ignorant as saying back in the 90's:
Yeah, Bono is gonna put Pavarotti to shame when they sing together on Tour.
Thank you GT, thank you for existing, really.
P.S. I will always rather drive a Miata in GT5 than a Gumpert, or any other thing in Shift2.
