From today's local paper in one of those side columns, I found something interesting.

A Pole was taken to find what the top ten complaints in the office were. See if you can finds yours on this local list.

10. Noise Level, too loud
9. Computer Problems
8. Inadequate Parking
7. No Privacy in Workspace
6. Poor Indoor Air
5. Not Enough Storage In Workspace
4. Not Enough Conference Rooms
3. Poor Janitorial Service

2. Its too Hot

1. Its too Cold.

Here at my office, its 1, 2, 5, and 8 but they all can be applied!

Just found it interesting. ;)

Without a doubt, #8 is the biggest complaint. The restaurant I work at is in the downtown area and we have no parking lot. The only person who is guaranteed a free parking space in the garage is the general manager. Everyone else either pays to park in a garage ($60/mo) or parks at our central office four or five blocks up the street and walks to work. I just pay to park, because I gotta get the kids to school and myself to school on days that I also have to work.

Repeated from Magic's original thread.

No problem, Magic. It's both too hot and too cold where I work - I'm right up against the windows, and it's freezing in winter (good because my wife loves to knit me wool sweaters) and roasting in summer (bad because I don't have the abs to go shirtless).

BTW, do you autocross?

Yes sir, I do! Just started, and won in my class. Their are more pictures in the photography forum. "A day of racing" the thread is called. :D

WTG! I'm hoping to get my Sundays freed up a little this summer. My Neon ACR is itching to get out and do some cone dancing. I've only made a run or teo but it's enough to know I'll love it if I ever get to really give it a shot.

There is something wrong with the air where I work. Everybody is always sneezing. And I get sick every time I come here. At home or anywhere else I feel fine. The second I get here my sinuses congest, I get a serious sinus headache which causes muscle tension in my neck, and I can't breath through my nose. After nine and half hours I feel half dead. After being home a while it's gone. And it never happens on days off. Thankfully Claritin works.

#2, because I'm outside a good deal, not to mention some the cars I drive have been baking in the sun for a few hours!

#7...is there ever enough privacy in our workspaces? It seems if you're not working at home, you can never find enough time for GTP without someone looking over your shoulder!

Great poll/survey, Magic!

#1, #2, #3 for my school...outside now we have to wear winter uniform and it's been really Sunny...and inside the fans are usually on full blast which makes it really cold...and the toilets are bad...don't get me started on them.

I'll vote as soon as I get a job. I would vote for those which apply to my previous place of employment, but since I've never been employed...:p

I voted for my school...

All except #4 apply. Too hot in the winter(after the heat finally turns on), too cold in summer(the AC won't shut off for crap. Just keeps going, even if over the weekend the temp dropped into the 60's, the AC will be on and it'll be cold as hell.). Janitors? They pretty well suck. At lunch they attempt to clean the table even if you are still eating. They also start stacking chairs while lunch is still going on, and a lot of times if you get up to go somewhere and come back, you have to unstack a chair. I'll include maintenence with the janitors. They can't fix anything, and when they try it's right in the middle of classes. While I was taking the MAP test(MO Assessment Program test) there was loud sawwing and hammering going on. I give them credit for attempting to fix the crappy school, but damn, can they not just wait till the weekend or a day off?
Noise. Stupid kids making noise. I hate it. There's always a group of kids in all of my classes that talk extremely loud and have laughing outbreaks and just sound like mental cases, and perhaps they are.
Computer problems. Damn strait. Parkway just loves Apple's crap(sorry Youth Cycler, I mean the crappy Apples..all Apples are crap). So they buy them then hang onto them for many years. They got this school network thingy, but it takes many mins to load after the crappy Apples load, and sometimes the system is down and you are screwed. Like today. I'm typing a report paper on the Rotary engine(I wanted to do the history of Mazda but my teacher said no but said that it was ok for the rotory one...it's all good). There's the media lab which consists of I-macs hooked to the net, and then there's the old crappy macs(dating from '95 or earlier) for the typing lab. So we are in the typing lab. 15 mins wasted trying to get several of em working, and I had to settle for one missing one of the keyboard supports. Then you start typing. There is a HUGE delay from the time you hit the key to the time it prints it, like 5-10 secs, and sometimes even more. So not only was my hand not at the right posture, I was messing up cause I type fast and this thing was lagging to death. Same with the mouse. There are some IBM compatables, but they are limited to some in the library and media lab, and the rest in drafting and around there, and in drafting my teacher put Novell on them cause of me, cause I DLed like 500MB of videos while in that class, even though I was still doing work. They have CD burners too. And he didn't think that I would still go on the net simply by going to "Open" in Cad(cause that's the only program on Novell) and clicking on this server thing which takes you right to the net. I got a ton of detentions from that, and I never went to a single one. I have a detention now for an un-related event in tech for the same teacher, it's tomarrow, and I'll have to be held in the school cause I am not wasting more time there doing nothing.
Parking. Not only are there not enough spots for all of the senoirs, jouniors, and sophmores who can drive, the ones who choose to drive don't always get a spot even if there are open spots. The damn school won't issue parking passes for sophmores even if there are open spots. Did I mention the parking pass is $50? Also in the student lot, the rent-a-cops put these fake $5 tickets on your window if you don't display the little tag. They don't bother to look up the plates and spot number. My bro got dozens and dozens of these, he didn't pay a cent and he graduated without any problems about it.
Also there are some busses that go into the student lot and will park blocking in students cars. We had that happen all the time last year, and we would end up honking, revving, and peeling out around these crappers.
Privacy? LMAO.
Indoor air...filled with contamination from moron kids who don't know how to cover thier nose or mouth when they sneeze or caugh. Also there can be a lot of strong chemical odors and paint smells.
Storage...lockers. I choose to not use one because they suck. The locker they give you is usually on the other side of the school from your classes, and also not only do kids try to break into them, the principles often cut off locks for stupid or no reason.

The school sucks.

I love working for myself out of my room. I don't have any of those annoyences :D

I got 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

I've recently moved from a townhouse office into an open-plan affair, so the lack of privacy is an issue. I even get people trying to work out what I'm doing from my rate of typing/clicking! Also, I like to print out some of my pictures and put them on the wall, but I only have about 8sq ft of wall space now! And they made me take my Kylie calendar down!

There's no parking, except on-street at £15 per day.

It's too hot, but then I'm always too hot.

I didn't vote for #10, because whilst there's lots of annoying noises (people's mobiles, people dialling with their phones on handsfree, people listening to voicemail on hands free", the level of noise isn't oppressive. Well, not since I finished building the two servers and shipped them to site!

That said, our team works really well in the open-plan format, and we pretty much have a ball. The 8 of us have between us significantly livened-up the rest of the office (with 100 people in it), so it's not all bad.

Touched a nerve? yea I guess. I just really hate how Parkway runs(attemps to) thier schools. Parkway has also gotten way too big, there's like 20,000 students or more in parkway schools in STL.

Ohh well. Only 10 more days of this crap then summer.

Would you belive the nerve of some people up there? The librarian won't let me go on GTP or MazdaWorld(I just became a mod there last night!)during lunch because it's "Not school related". Then when I said that it was typing, helping people, and reading, she said that that's not school related material. Then I waited for 2 weeks for an E-mail from my counsler about using the net during lunch, and she said that if I went to the counseling center at lunch I could do it but I would be monitored. Screw that. Then in Lab(a block of free time for homework and stuff)I asked if I could use the computer in the room cause I had(and still very much have) nothing else to do, and he first lied to me by saying that there's a password to get on, and then made up excuses and won't let me use it.

I hate the place.

Those noises are very annoying. I hate the "hands-free" thing. Sometimes people stay on hold using it and you get to hear the elevator music or mechanical announcements.
