i need serious help/advice...i have a 98 gtp..w/ 244 000km on it..(motor runs great...)ive notices slight tranny problems but have also done absolutely everything to take care of it...all of a sudden my tranny completely decided to stop working...in every gear R N D 1 2 3 its like im in neutral....its obvious that i need a new one...my question is is there n e thing i can do to just get it running just to get it to the shop?....please help w? advice...

I'd suggest that you ask on a Pontiac forum.

However, does it have fluid in it? Idle the car in Park and check it with the transmission dipstick.

Ditto, check the fluid level. also, what KIND of "slight tranny problems" have you been noticing? Thats probably the best means of us gaining some insight as to what has finaly broken.

A few questions:

When you take it out of park does the car roll like it's in neutral or stay put like the parking break is still engaged?

Does it make any unusual sounds when you put it in gear/give it gas?

I think the best case scenario that you stand to be looking at here is a lack of fluid. Beyond that, i'd say your torque converter is in serious disrepair (at least if it's that you dont have to replace the whole transmission.) But honestly with what we know now, (it wont go) it could be anything from one end of the powertrain to the other.

I think if you can get it running enough to get to a shop, you might as well not take it to a shop.

Otherwise towing is your best bet I think. It's not so expensive either. My friend payed 70 bucks to get his Miata towed to a shop.
