Make a DVD which also contains files, help...

Basically, is it possible to burn a DVD that plays in a normal (non dvix) DVD player but which can also have normal computer files stored on it?

For example, I have a video in AVI, I want to burn it on to a DVD in standard VOB style (I can do that)... but I also want a copy of this AVI in its original state on the same disk so I have it for future use and so I can free up space on my hard drive.

Is that actually possible? like a hybrid disk, will the DVD player just ignore the other stuff on it?

Any answers would be great...

Evidently it IS possible, since a commercial DVD movie can have DVD-ROM content that adds "bonus" features to your PC experience. (blah blah blah)

I'd think you need something more advanced than what came with your drive, like Adobe Encore, something like that. I've used Encore, but it was a while back on someone else's system, but I seem to recall something about DVD-ROM content in the menus.

Ok, its sounds do able but very complicated, I use VSO's convertxtodvd program to make the AVI into VOB and then use Nero Express to burn a video DVD. I wouldnt know what other programs I would need because there is no choice anywhere to make a hybrid DVD.

Maybe if I burned it in the mode that allows content to be added to it at a later date (forgotten what is called) then add the computer content onto the end of the video DVD in 2 separate burn cycles?

No, your application is strictly DVD video, not for ROM files. The multi-session movie discs just ad video, from what I understand. I've had limited success with those.
