Right now I’m doing some heavy R&D for my favorite genre. While we all know what it is that we’d like to see in an ideal racing game (i.e. bodykits, decals, vinyls, etc.), I’m looking for the more detailed and intricate additions.

The things that would be easy to overlook or have been overlooked in the genre’s past for so long. So I need you guys’/gals’ help right now.

What are the components that would and SHOULD be added to your ideal racing game/ racing sim?!

Theres a lot of threads with this sort of info already in, you won't get too far in the GT4 forums but theres an awful lot of ideas being presented every day in the GT5 section of the site.

I would love to see mechnical failures that aren't random. Basically if you dont take care of the car, it will break down on you. I would love to see something like that in a racing game. I would also like to see engines blowing, I remember seeing a vid of a 456M GT, the guy driving it was pushing it hard and the engine blew. I would love to have mechnical wear and tear like that due to over using, nothing random but to have something like that, loads of data would be needed.

Tokyo Extreme. They have overheating modelled for when you've been running at high rpms for way too long.

Also Sega GT 2002 for the X-box, you can buy second hard parts very cheap, but they can and do fail duing a race.

One of the nicest features of the game, runnning half way through a race and having the exhaust blow. Shocked the hell out of me the first time it happened.

Still a very much overlooked game, not the best by any stretch, but for an early X-box racer it had a good range of cars and a nice (but arcade biased) physics model.

GT4 plus Project Gotham's range of cars, GT4's physics for all cars, and GT4's tracks, and GT4's basic layout. Add to that (note this is just a wish list) the AI from the Geoff Crammond's GP series, 20+ cars in a race, Grand Prix Legends' damage model (which includes engine degradation from over revving). Perhaps add NFSU2's bodykits to allow a change of car appearance.

Remove: Prize cars. Racing wins credits , and all cars can be bought at any time if the credits are available. Make licences cost credits to attempt, and make getting the licence the only reward.

In other words, limit progress simply by limiting funds (and making skill important to earning funds) and make damage cost credits to fix.

It's almost perfect as it is, though.

i know how rude this is to say, but more cars. Almost all the cars in GT4 are very left wing. More of the everyday cars would make the game more 'fun'. The addition of ford falcon and holden commodore was nice, but what about camry's magna's... etc...

Damage would be very hard to include but it would be very rewarding. Not just the petty damage like the NFS series includes, how you ram your chunk of metal into a guardrail at 200mph and get a brocken headlight, but v8 supercar challange kind of damage. With bits flying off. ^^

I also love seeing skid marks and tire marks left on corners, it also helps to see how youve been taking certain corners, and how you can improve.

<--- all this needs a platform with a much better processor, becasue as it stands GT4 is already pushing the envelope past what any other game has before.

Allow us to tune not only suspension, but also air/fuel mixtures, ignition timings, etc.

im with you on that. also, how about these:

full engine simulation

every part of a cars engine can be tweaked to your hearts content. with the user able to buy additional parts (different filters, cams etc).

part wear and tear (including part failiure)

punish those that like to wreck cars with this handy get out clause. dont look after you car, and expect to pay thousands to repair it. also include a car maintanance option where the car has to be cared for (as in real life).

different types of parts/tyres

not all manufacturers make parts of the same quality. express this in the game with better quality part costing more, but also being more efficient. the same goes for car tyres. have many diffenent types to suit performance and pocket.

consumables

its ridiculous that you only have to buy a set of tyres once and they last forever. the same goes for fuel. have the user refil their tank when it runs out, and replace their tyre when they are worn. this would add another exciting dimension to the game.

realistic clutch

its about time gran turismo had a realistic working clutch. move the reverse button onto the gears for manual drivers, and for automatic drivers, have it work off the brake (like in other racing games). the free button could then be used for the clutch.

suspension settings

instead of having the suspension setup only affect the front or rear wheels, how about if you could setup your car per wheel (ie front left, front right, rear left, and rear right)?
that would be more realistic.

etc. etc

Be able to adjust left/right aswell as front/back settings. Be able to change tire pressure.

Be able to blow the engine, have parts that can fail if not looked after properly.

Alot more real tracks, and more race cars, less soccer mom cars.

Some sort of damage system. Have it so it can either affect appearance or appearance and preformance.

A difficulty setting for races. So it's not so damn easy beat the AI, but n00bs don't find it impossible to start out.

20+ cars racing at once.

Have the 24 hours of LeMans like the real thing. 4 classes all driving at once. Make a race series in the game similar to ALMS. You can win races in any class.

AI that acts more like a human. It seems way too artificial right now.

Be able to save in the pits.

All that and I'd be very happy.

Yeah, real physical damage, cos I want to crack my ribs when I slam into the back of the car infront .

let the sponsors have more role, like in the tuners part, let them be more individual. better tire wear, more cars we actually want to race, instead of having 7 diffrent types of r34's, just make one modeal, then change then price for the name of the car. then u can put more RACE CARS is the game (if thats not a big enough hint) and more limits on cars entering events. like the JGTC, dont let any other cars in except GT500, no mods added, just the stock car, with ur tire choice, and the ride height limits, make the series and the cars rule compliant

Id much prefer the reverse being a different button for the automatic. With other racing simulators, sometime you lock the back wheel under braking and then it decided to go into reverse at 130mph.. -_-` .. wasnt a pretty ending. As for the manual though, definantly have it in the gear selection.

i like too much to be able to come to a dead stop without blazing off into the sunset, going in the wrong direction :sly:
