Making exported pictures look better

I tried putting my photo travel pics on facebook and picasa but it turned out horribly compared to the ones online. They just got mucked up and didn't keep their original colors and smoothness of the colors.

Is there a better way to export the pictures to make them look as good as they do on the ps3???

A quick trick is to use Photoshop and GIMP, resize them to 800 px wide, and use the Sharpen filter once.

Also be careful about putting them up on Facebook, once you do that, theoretically they could sue you for having them up anywhere else.
