managing our expectations - eye candy

Looking at some of the recent titles being released on the PS3 it amazes me how much action can be seen on the screen at any one time, the quality of the sound and the graphics etc.

This lead me to think about the various posts on here about engine sounds, visual elements like skid marks and reversing lights and I've come to the conclusion that we'd better have these things and more.

With the processing power the PS3 is capable of we should have night time racing with excellent weather effects - chasing cars whilst is raining hard and your windscreen wipers racing back and forth should be a goer!!

We should have the sound of the wind when you are stationery on the Eigar nordwand track - if you watch the Italian job and they are outside when the Aston Martins are veing chucked over the edge of the wall by the mafia you'll know what I mean.

The people in the stands they all have bright red and yellow and blue standard colours and it all looks so fake and when you do pull up close to the spectaters the graphics I must say look poor.

The game I love to bits but when it comes out it's going to have to last us a good few years until GT5 comes out so we must have somthing thats going to stand the test of time.
 
this has been discussed so many times... I agree... but hear it too many times
 
Ok, I think you need to break all these things down into things that are necessary to improve the gameplay and things that just make it look/sound better.

For example, changing weather conditions and time conditions is something which will improve the gameplay. But making spectators look more interesting just improves eye candy.

I would rather PD focus on things that directly affect the gameplay first before making spectators have nosehair I can see if I look closely.

A good few years, i certainly hope not.
Prologue is nice, but not more then just that, a prologue, the full game can't be that far away, unless they're developping it for the PS4 ;)

My prediction for GT5 is may 2009, so a little less then a year 👍
