Manual gear change issue.

When changing up or down through the gears it jumps at least 2 gears. i. e. 1st to 3rd or 2nd to 4th. Going back down is the same regardless of what car. . I have reconfigured buttons and tried both of my controllers all with the same results . Other games are all ok so the controllers aren't the issue and both are fully charged. Anyone else having the same issue?
 
Are you changing gears with R2 and L2? R2 and L2 are "adjustable" buttons, perhaps Ps3 think you taping twice
 
As Sagaper said, your PS3 could see you tapping the buttons twice. Have you tried with different buttons, like □ and/or ○?
 
All good. One of the kids left a blue tooth dongle in the system which was causing issues with the DS3. Cheers.
