After reading a large article in the latest issue of EDGE magazine I noticed an Interview with some big wig from Sony talking about the E3 conference. During the interview he was asked if the demo's were run off the PS3, he confirmed that the tech demo's were, and that they used a few PS3's as anyone would incase of any technical problems, ie the onlyone you took breaks, oh bugger. On the game demo's shown later in the conference heconfirmed that some of them were pre-rendered, however it was all to spec. He said nothing shown was better than what the PS3 can do real time, and the tech demo's can confirm that. The main reason for companies doing pre-render in a case like this is time, not to exagerrate the power of the console, but when the Unreal 3 engine was running they were asked if they wanted to just do a video and they decided not to.

The article goes on to compare the Sony conference to the Microsoft one and theres an interview with a Microsoft guy where they ask about the PS3 beingmore powerful andit's really rather funny. Overall it's worth a read, but yes, pre-renders were used. And no, they didn't exagerrate the PS3's power.

Yeah, SONY did admit that some of the tech demo's were not run off PS3 hardware.......but they did say that they were run to exsactly the same specs as the PS3 would be using a comparable computer setup (said to be running x2 nvidia 6800's using the new SLi technology) producing the same graphical power.......

Basically what was at E3 is what you will see for the PS3, whether or not it was actually running of the RSX or just off a comparable PC setup.

Actually, I believe they were a little too specific about what "real-time" meant.

All of the videos shown at the end of the conference were being played off of video, probably DVD or whatever. Therefore, none of them were technically "real-time". What they're saying is that the tech demos (Doc Ock, blowing leaves, rubber duckies), were all done in real-time from the dev kit they had tucked away backstage. Everything else was being played back from video. But most, if not all, of those videos were in fact recorded while the game/cutscene/whatever was being played real-time on a dev kit.

Yea Jedi, thats a good explanation of it.

As for the MSuy, EDGE asked him something along the lines of how he felt about the PS3 being more powerful, he said "is it?" then EDGE listed a couple of things and the MS guy started rabbiting on about whats really importnant is how easy it is to develop for XB360 and the quality of games that will be on it, like FFXI, which incidentally is already out on the PS2. Sony however were keen to point out that developing a game fo the PS3 is so easy it could be cheaper than developing games for the PS2 are despite the advanced kit's, and extra details ect.

As if Sony has no track record of many great high quality games on PS1 and 2.

Also look at how many console games run on the Unreal engine, Even ghost recon for PS2 does. If PS2 can handle the Unreal engine 2 Then Unreal Enigine 3 could be the next Renderware for Next gen consoles.
