Now almost a decade old, the Maserati MC12 has become a true collector’s piece, but that didn’t stop German tuner Edo to come up with a brand new tuning package for the thing.

You read that right, Edo Competition just made a performance package dedicated to a car worth ~$1.6 million (and rising). Even back when the MC12 was brand new such a proposition appeared outrageous, especially as only 50 were built – each with a price tag of $670.000 – but Edo did anyway.

This time, things are a little different, as Maserati commissioned the tuning house to prepare an MC12 worthy for the Italian car company’s centenary.

Even by today’s standards, the mid-engine Maserati remains one of the fastest automobiles ever made. Thanks to the Enzo’s underpinning, the 6.0-litre V12 unleashes 620 hp and 652 Nm (481 lb-ft) of torque, making the MC12 accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds, and reach a maximum top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph).

Edo’s variant, however, is even more potent, mainly because it’s one of the 12 track-only Corse cars that's been converted for road use. According to Edo, it features only the slightest deviations from the original racing car, such as a new exhaust system (which conforms with noise and emission tests), street chassis and suspension tuning and a fuel system that can accept pump gas.

The result was christened “Edo MC12 Versione Corse” (VC for short) and it develops 744 hp and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to a deadweight of 1,250 kg (2,756 lbs) the car sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.0 seconds flat, and achieves the same 330 km/h (205 mph) mind-boggling top speed.

And here's the thread for another MC12 tuned by Edo:

Beautiful car. There's no doubt this would be a monster on the track, considering that it's pretty much a race car.
