Awesome game, it's sort of like Knights of the Old Republic meets the Halo series.

I've heard there are some issues with frame rate at times as well as some dodgy animation and iffy cut scenes (really wooden). Still KoTOR II: Sith Lords was as buggy as a rotten horses head but I still played it and enjoyed it.
Still looking forward to this game on my new TV.

Anyone else notice the whole Christian undertone of the game?

I finally rented this game on Friday. Some of you might remember that I was concerned if I would like the game or not. While this normally isnt my kind of game since I didnt enjoy Oblivion I have really been enjoying Mass Effect. I am currently around level 23 with a total of about 10 hours actual gameplay. I got hooked right away and played every change that I could get and had a hard time putting it down. The first thing I did was turn off that blur effect in the game settings. It made the game look terrible. Now with it off it looks great but I do notice a lot of frame rate dropping problems especially when multiple enemies are on the screen. I heard this mentioned on other forums so I know its not me. I didnt have a manual with the rental so I was just pretty much guessing with everything.
I do have a few questions.
-How do you get medium armor? I have a lot in my inventory but its greyed out and wont let me pick it.
-How do you get more than one armor bar? Some of the team mates I pick have up to 4 armor bars and I only have one.
-How can I increase the skills that allow me to open items that contain health, armor, and guns? It always sais that something is too low for me to open it.
-About how long is the plot of this game? I am around 10 actually gameplay hours and wondering if I have a long way to go or if the plot is only about a set amount of hours. I still have the game for at least 6 more days but will only be able to play a couple hours a night.
-Is there replay value after the plot is finished?

You have to keep putting points into one of the categories, I actually think it might be labeled armour but I'm not sure. I just kept putting points into something and it told me I unlocked heavy armour around level 25.

I think I beat the game in something like 15 hours but I didn't do very many side quests.

There is replay, I'm going back through a second time and doing every single side mission and exploring all the worlds that I can.

I forgot to mention I am a Vanguard. It said something about close range shotgun fighting so I picked that character.
I am just trying to decide if I want my gf to buy it for me or if I should just try to get as much in as I can in the next week of the rental.
If I can play through with my built up characters then it might be worth it but not sure how that would tie in with the story on the 2nd time through.

The game is awesome. And if you beat it in 15 hours.... wow did you even stop to enjoy it? i beat it the first time through in uh about 30 hours I think. Just under 30 hours. I got the "completionist" award. But now on my 2nd play through, i'm tryin got get all the Paragon points I can and do everything I can find. and i'm probably going to hit over 40hrs by the time i'm done.
The first time I played i finished as a lvl 46 or 47. This time i'm playing through on hardcore and would like to get above fifty.

This is an incredible game. the character interaction is awesome. The romantic subplots can really provide some humor.

I've already sold the game, I was level 50+ and level X+ rounds. Awesome game!

What an excellent game. I finally beat the plot after about 17-18 hours and a lot of exploring too. I definetly plan on playing through again once I figure out which character I want to use. Also I guess if we want to explore other planets we need to do that BEFORE we finish the plot. So this time I will be exploring everything before I finish the plot again. Dang I cant believe I found an RPG that I actually finished all the way and will play through again.

It looks like I have 2 options when restarting the game. I can use my original character with all of his level upgrades or I can start over from scratch with a new person. I noticed that it allows me to pick a new category that I unlocked called "Shotgun". So from what I understand I can use this shotgun upgrade with any character that normally doesnt have shotgun right?? Thats a really cool feature. I think I will end up going with Infiltrator the next time through since I can use the shotgun with him now.

My girlfriend said she wants to play now but our rental is up so I think she might be buying this for me/us for christmas. I guess we will see. :D

Yes defiantly worth a buy. I'm working on my second time through on the Veteran difficulty, it's a bit harder now. I still think this is probably one of the best games I have ever played.

Technical issues aside (some frame rate drops, audio problems and texture loading problems) this is my favourite 360 game of the year by far. I must have spent over 100 hours playing through multiple times with different classes unlocking achievements (which often actually gives you something in return) and finding all the armour and weapons etc.
The game could be longer. If you stick with the main story only you could finish it in 20 hours. But it's very replayable.
Excellent game.

I got this game and watched my brother play for a few hours. I don't know which class I'm going to start with yet.

New downloadable content coming mid March. That should open up the game a bit more.

Great game. Definitely quite a few flaws. As Ol' Black Adder...er...slackbladder stated, there are frame rate issues, as well as graphical problems (weird shadowing). Not to mention the bland worlds. Although, I can appreciate the difficulty of creating a massive universe and trying to set all the worlds apart from each other using limiting software. So, I imagine this will become more polished in the next few games. Overall a good first outing, in my opinion. Very much looking forward to that new content. I've been through the game twice, and it's getting pretty old, as there isn't a huge amount of variety. Hopefully the new content will be something interesting, and not just more "save the scientists" missions.

;)

Cool DLC is coming in March! Thanks for the heads up 👍.

So I had decided against this game for a while, based on the number of technical issues people had been reporting (and a real lack of time on my hands to play through an epic Bioware game). After months of hesitation, though, I finally went out and bought it, and it's great!

I expected the worst on the technical side of things, and I haven't found them to be bad at all. The little frame rate dips, texture pop and occasional screen tear are really trivial compared to the game's scope - this game is BIG, and DEEP. A little framerate dip is nothing when I'm zipping around a galaxy. And the graphics and cinematography are incredible, which makes the story a lot more engaging.

I love the branching dialogue trees - instead of dreading long conversations, I actually look forward to them. I feel like I'm given the choice of more realistic answers, rather than the standard "good answer, bad answer, neutral answer" options that you're usually given.

The combat isn't as solid as a dedicated shooter like Gears, but it does the job, and I prefer it to anything turn-based, which is wholly unrealistic. It'd be nice of my teammates pulled some more weight, though.

As you progress through the game your teams mates get better with their increased skill. My main character is at level 58 right now and his team mates probably do more of the killing then he does.

If you really end up liking the game and want to find out more about it, there are two books by Drew Karpashyn (one of the lead writers for the game) that explain things a bit better.

Just finished Mass Effect. :) Best $5 I ever spent on a game. :D Glad I finally got to learn what you guys were raving about 2 and a half years ago.
