OK, this might not take off, but might be fun trying... would anyone like to take part in a Mastermind league or ladder? If so, please register your interest here.... Additional leagues/groups can be made as and when demand arises...

Object of the Game

Each player makes a combination of four smileys (no doubles allowed) using only the six smileys shown above (Yellow, Green, Blue, Red, Grey, Purple) which is kept hidden from their opponent. Each player then has to guess the other's combo... you then tell your opponent how many colours are correct and how many are in the right place. Using logic and powers of deduction, you hone in on your opponent's code. The winner is who ever gets the other's code first. Both players should be allowed the same number of attempts...

In response to a guess, you award a 👎 for each correct colour, and a 👍 for a correct colour in the correct place...

Example

My code is: :indiff: :) :drool: :sick:

My opponent guesses: :sick: :) :D :mad:

I respond by saying 👍 👎 X X (i.e. one colour in right place, one other colour correct, but in the wrong place and two totally wrong)... Notice that the response does not indicate which ones are right!! The position of the thumbs is irrelevant!

My opponent's next guess is: :drool: :) :indiff: :D

My next response to this guess is 👍 👎 👎 X (three correct colours, with one in the correct place...)

I was just going to have this thread as a free-playing thread (and people can have free games if they so desire) but then I thought that a ladder or league system would be cool. Once a league or two is established, leagues may be split into hierarchical order... or not... we'll see how it goes... for now, please register your interest here, and people can start playing a few practice games. Please note that you can take your time over playing a game:- this means you can play whenever you get a free moment! It's also means that some games might take rather longer than others. You can also arrange to play games via PM if you prefer, and announce the result in the thread (which should be verified by each player)...

Once everyone has played a few practice games, I can make a league and have a proper fixture list, games can be played at your leisure.

The "X" means that one smilie from your guess was totally wrong; both the color and the position obviously.

The game doesn't need to be played immediately... it's like a 21st Century version of chess by mail... (do you think people still play that?) Just keep an eye out for his post or PM...
