I'm having trouble with the math were reviewing right now, I can do it when someone helps guide me but without that help, I'm totally stumped when I have to do it myself.

So I'm asking if anyone has some easier formula's or tips on making this easier for myself.

These are the style of questions; -(5.6x-2.2)=3x+4.7-3.6x

:guilty:

Edited the question. sorry. I mis-typed it at first. :guilty:

What you need to do is get all the X variables on one side of the equation, and all the numbers on the other. For this one, do this:

1) Solve the left side. 5.6 - 2.2 = 3.4 Also, the negative sign is outside the parentheses, so we now have:

-3.4 = 3x - 4.7 - 3.6x

2) To get the numbers over to the left, add 4.7 to both sides:

-3.4 + 4.7 = 3x - 3.6x

3) Then solve these bits. -3.4 + 4.7 = 1.3 Also, 3x - 3.6x = -0.6x So now we have:

1.3 = -0.6x , or -1.3 = 0.6x

4) To find X, divide both sides by 0.6. X = -2.16666

Ah, that's gonna be very very helpful, thanks a bunch neon_duke, but I've got a problem with your answer, in the back of my book it says -0.5. Your answer is completely off that isn't it?

Edit: My bad, my question was wrong the correct question was -(5.6x-2.2)=3x+4.7-3.6x

I'll give this a shot.

First, remove the brackets. Then move everything similar to one side (variables on one side, anything else on the other). Then divide.

Hope that helps!

*edit* I tried it and I got the same answer as Duke. If an answer seems to make no sense, try plugging it into the equation and see if it works out.

Ah! Your answer was right for the question you did, the problem was that I mis-typed the question. :irked: Terribly sorry.

Tha duke is right, sUn. Either you typed it in wrong, or the book is wrong.

Books' answers are often wrong.

multiply the left side by -1

-5.6x + 2.2 = 3x + 4.7 - 3.6x

add 5.6x to both sides

2.2 = 4.7 + 5x

-4.7 both sides

-2.5 = 5x

edit: it should finally be all correct :crazy:

-(5.6x-2.2)=3x+4.7-3.6x
-5.6x+2.2=3x+4.7-3.6x
-5.6x+2.2=4.7-.6x
.4x+2.2=4.7
.4x=2.5
x=6.25

Not sure, but it seems to make sence. At least, after a cold, crisp Michelob AmberBock.

Here's my take on the problem :

-(5.6x-2.2) = 3x+4.7-3.6x
-5.6x+2.2 = 3x+4.7-3.6x
-5.6x-3x+3.6x = -2.2+4.7
-5x = 2.5
x = 2.5/-5
x = -0.5

So... I guess I'd say yes, the answer is indeed -0.5 as stated in your book.
