MAXDrive for PS2 transfers?

I was just wondering if this would work, since I'm sure I'm not the only one with a MAXDrive.

I don't have my PS3 yet, is why I'm asking, instead of just trying it.. hehe.

It seems to me that it would work... that you could use the MAXDrive software to copy your PS2 saves off onto the USB stick, then use that same disc in the PS3, to copy them back onto the virtual memory card.

It would save me the trouble of buying that PS2>PS3 transfer thing, which would only get a one-time use. Seems kinda worthless.

I'm sucking it up so far by starting over in both Enthusia(not so bad) and GT4(bad). It seems so much more difficult not having much money and not know what the prize cars are. I forgot and it really has added to the replay value not knowing.

PS3 uses something called .psv file they have there own type of coding and would required more than just a max drive program to disc transfer. files would have to be coded into a .psv file. A new file that people are triing to crack as we speak. They can be converted but that can not be created yet.

I'm thinking that's precisely why the MAXDrive should work.. because it's PS2 software writing a PS2 game-save. The PS3 shouldn't see it as an attempt to copy a file, it should simply save it out to the "memory card" like any other save. Any necessary conversion should be done by the PS3 itself.

The only way to really know is to try it.. that's why I'm hoping to hear from one of the other MAXDrive users.

1. You probably won't find any other cheaters here at gtplanet....try GameFAQs.
2. Buy a PS3 and try it out yourself.

PS3 creates its own file structure for PS2 and PS1 games the same way for .max files. The PS3 only reads direct psv files that are created when using the adapter. Not standard ps2 game saves. they are converted when using the adapter. Anything else must use the .psv format to be copied which no software writes at the moment. In time there should be plenty of hacks to allow what you mention.

That was a completely unnecessary flame and totally incorrect statement.

In fact, Famine's website has a very lengthy tutorial on how to use a MAXdrive to hybrid GT3 cars.

Yes. That completely answered his question on whether a MAXdrive will work with the PS3.

You know, stop being so disrespectful all the time. It's really getting annoying, and I'm sure other members are feeling the same.

As for your question Jedi... I'll try it out soon and report back. Thankfully, I still have my PS2. :)

1) I don't cheat. The MAXDrive is not a cheat device, it's a USB device that allows you to copy your save-games onto your computer, and vice-versa. The only unorthodox sort of thing I ever used it for was hybrids in GT3, once upon a time. I've also used it for its intended purpose of backing up my saves. Which has actually come in handy on a couple of occasions.

2) Lend me the $600 and I will. I'm not buying a PS3 for another month. I was curious now as to whether this would work. So I posted a thread. It's a valid topic and a valid question. Live with it.

why not just buy a PS2 memory card adapter?

I don't like the idea of buying something I'm only going to use once and never touch again.

Duck Tracy.. thank you. :)
