Maybe we should leave the sarcasm to the less serious/useful threads

Now to the point. I noticed that some of us (myself included) are giving slightly sarcasic responses here. It looks like some threads are a little random, and not of too much use to other members. Sarcasm there is probably OK. I'm sure there will be threads here where people have more serious questions, and threads that people will find useful long in the future. They might not want to deal with a whole lot of sarcasm to find their answer. At least, please don't put your random remarks at the beginning, maybe a little later, after the question is sufficiently answered.

Anybody else feel this way?
 
I thought for sure that the temptation to post a sarcastic response would have been too great to resist for someone by now.


Obviously, for a serious question a serious answer(s) is in order, and I know from having read a bit in the premium forum that the intent is to keep the conversation to the intelligent end of the spectrum here.


...then again, as the saying goes, 'ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer'.
 
I know I am asking for it. I was just trying to, I guess, just give a little heads up. It was just a though I had. No need to keep this thread serious, I guess.
 
GTP isn't nearly serious enough, SRSLY.
 
These little comments usually are just one-liners. If your life is too busy that you can't afford to lose a second reading one witty sentence, then what the hell are you doing on GTP anyways.
 
Just trying to catch it before every thread is full of smartys. The ask GTP section is for getting answers, not jokes. Make fun when the question is sufficiently answered.

I grow weary of the simple questions, and would have hoped there'd be thoughtful, entertaining or deep discussion questions.

Looks like we may have overestimated GTP.
 
I'm not sure that you have, once a standard has been established I see this as being a great section of the site. Give it time and I'm sure (or maybe just very hopefull) that it will work out that way.
 
Unfortunately, I see think this forum will follow the Convo Forum, unless people step up the questions. Pupik asked a simple question, that many of you could have easily answered, but none choose to. They instead posted questions regarding very old jokes about licking elbows.

I know why Pupik asked his question, and its a very substantial and discussion producing thread.

Yet we get questions about how reptiles excrete pheces and which search engine is the best.

Prove me wrong.
 
Well, Pupik posted his thread at what, midnight in the UK? And it's only ~10:45am now. I think that one just needs time to gain the attention of those who could best answer it.

As for the "less serious/useful" threads, those are a result of the fact that everyone was already used to the idea of posting serious/important questions in the appropriate section elsewhere on GTP. Give members a space where they can ask anything, and you'll get the questions that they wouldn't/couldn't ask in any other section.

I suppose my assessment of the situation isn't a very positive one.
 
It could probably do with a sicky thread to clarify what type of questions are being looked for here, because at the moment it's very open and people just see the "ask GTPlanet" forum and I guess some members may see it as an excuse to be random. A sticky thread clarifying what standard you want, should at the very least remove that excuse and it could result in stupid questions being replied to by more regular members pointing to the sticky thread and lowering the number of stupid threads as a result. I can't see there being a negative side to one of the mods/admin posting what is wanted from this forum in a sticky anyway.

Just an idea.
 
I was gonna post one sarcastic one that I actually need to have answered but then ask a serious one too. I'm sure I'd get sarcastic or personal attacks in both. :dopey:
 
Long day at the office, long-time unasked/unanswered question. I wasn't expecting an instant response...

Anyhow, some questions are bound to get less-than-serious responses; I suppose if it depends if the answer can be dealt with facts rather than opinions, you have a resonable expectation to get serious answer.

All emipircal data goes out the window when asking a buch of men how to talk to women.

I am surprised you actually did expect any more from GTP. Sure, you would expect higher of the members who you know - mostly long-term badge-wielding members, but they only represent a tiny minority of GTP posters.

I didn't expect anything less than what was achieved. If the level of quality of the Q&A section is bothering or surprised you, I suppose you haven't stepped into the Rumble Strip in the last... oooooooh say 2 years?
