This probably belongs in the metal thread but I was wondering if anyone else on here is going to Mayhem Fest. The band lineup is decent, I'm mostly going for Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, and Manson, but it will be cool to listen to what the other bands have to offer.

If everything goes to plan I should be going with a bunch of friends to the one in Tampa on August 11th, but I have one problem, my parents would never let me go to something like that (This isn't about mayhem fest, I just want your opinion). Almost every weekend I hang out with my friend for close to the entire day until 11pm (or until the next day if I say I'm staying over). Mayhem fest starts at 2pm and goes to 12pm, so I have a solid alibi, but I still have some concerns. I've thought of every situation from getting a black eye somehow (friend accidentally hit me in the face with a bumper) to smelling like I've been to a concert (lots of axe and a change of clothes), but is there anything else I should be concerned with? Another concern is that Tampa is 2-3 hours away from where I live, and being raised under a strict household I feel terrible not only lying but being all the way across the state. I guess I'm just worrying too much about it, but someone elses opinion would be helpful.

Man. Where do I start with this?

Did you ever stop to think that you'll be in more trouble when (not if) they find out that you went and didn't tell them, and lied on top of it, than if you just asked them if you could go? I think I'd take the angle along the lines of being 18 15 days after the concert... legally an adult... something along those lines.

Regarding your friends that are going, did any of them ask their parents? If yes, do those parents get along with yours? If yes again, I'd at least attempt the classic "Timmy's parents are letting him go" and see how far that gets you, but that'd be more of a last resort.

Sometimes parents can surprise you. They just might say yes.

Note: I'm not responsible for any negative outcome from either following or disregarding anything I just said.

I will, however, take the credit if you ask them and they say yes.

My parents wouldn't say yes, especially if I showed them who was playing at the concert (something along the lines of satanic music, lol). I guess I could work with just asking if I could go to a concert with my friends and saying that it's a few metal bands, there's at least a slim chance of that working, but since it's in Tampa it's most likely going to be a no.

As for my friends parents, they don't care at all, and none of them know my parents. I don't think the probablilty of them finding out is as great as you make it out to be. With a change of clothes and no evidence that I was there there's no chance they would be able to find out, for all they know my friend and I are hanging out with another friend of mine who lives in the middle of nowhere. But I agree with you, I should really ask them and see how it goes.
