Hey guys I just tried something, I bought one of each premium Mazda MX-5 from the dealer, the '89 and the '91, the only noticeable difference is the extra 10kg the '91 model carries, so I buy the lightweight windows to make them both equal... or so I thought. They both produce 118bhp at 6500rpm, both weigh 940kg but the '91 model is 7pp down.
After taking them to the track it was clear that the '91 model had a slightly deeper exhaust note and was around 0.2 seconds a lap slower, it also seemed to spin it's inside wheel easier and had a slight tendency to produce a slight hint of understeer when entering the same corners at the same speed as the '89 model (I was racing with comfort hard).
Can anybody explain this? It's really got me stumped.
