Hey all, I'm new to the Gran Turismo series.

I've got Gran Turiso 3, and have started the Gran Turismo mode game. I earned a Domestic B license (mostly golds and silvers), and then bought a Toyota Sprinter-Treuno. I then won the Sunday and Clubman cups, and have almost won the FR and Spider/Roadster challenge.

On the Spider/Roadster challenge, I have used the Mazda MX-5 that I won in Clubman cup. I've upgraded it with Racing chip, Turbo kit stage 1, Semi-racing muffler and Transmission stage 1. Anyway, I've pretty much blown away the competition in Deep Forest and Apricot Hill, but I'm having real trouble with the Test circuit.

I know that the transmission part reduces your max speed, so I turned it off quick shift before I started the Test Circuit. Anyway, I get a great start, and get ahead of the competition by the first turn. However, on the straight, my car starts maxing out at about 230ks, and the Merc SLK just overtakes me, because it can just keep increasing it's speed, although I can't really do anything but come second.

Is there any part I should buy to overcome this problem? Or should I simply wait until I get a better car to win this cup?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Hey Blade welcome to the forums.

Gosh, its been a while since actually having played Gran Turismo 3, but the answer to your problem may be to buy the "full racing" transimtion.

After having bought that, go to your settings, then go to your gear ratios to adjust the settings, then go to auto settings to make the gears wider.

I hope that helps.

Oh, and, enjoy your stay.

Bad thing about that is it costs 10,000, so you might have to sell off some cars or race Superspeedway to accumulate funds.

Also try changing back to your stock transmission for this race as well.

Before the race starts there is the settings ICON, go to it and change parts and install stock trans. Good luck

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome!

I'll go buy the 10,000 credit transmission, it shouldn't be too hard to get the money, I'll just race the Spider/Roadster Deep Forest raceway a few times (2500 credits a win).

Thanks for the advice!

An other solution is to get the full custom transmission and use a long setting.
Your start would be worse than it is now but your top speed would be much higher.

I just tried what I suggested.
Stock Miata + Turbo level 1 + Chip + Full custom transmission
(Sorry for the names, I play with a french version and I just can guess what the parts names are in the US version) with a 'large' setting. Let's say the cursor is halfway between 'Normal' and 'Large'.

The start is indeed slower, but with a top speed around 280 km/h you should complete the 2 laps in less than 5 min., and the SLK would be 25 sec. back.

Only drawback, this is an expensive solution (the transmission part is 10,000 cr, and the race win prize is only 2,500)

Oops, I just went back to the thread to read Kikkoman's solution... which is actually the same as mine.
Sorry, I should read everything before I answer, not only the first post. :O

Anyway, now you have the figures.
