Hi, I've searched and found little information regarding this time trial competition. I entered with a NB Miata and tuned it to 196 hp and 910kg. I know I am not the best driver out here but my times are faaaar from the top of the leaderboard. Which Miata is the best to use??? Should I just keep looking for the right setup???

The answer to which one to use is pretty obvious if you take a look at the leader board.

Roadster RS (NC) 07 from the dealership.

It’s a shame though, I was hoping to build a different one up under weight and use ballast to exactly meet the 900kg requirement while the lightest the RS will go is approx 931kg, but as all the other MX5 are 1.8ltr or under and the quick ones a 2ltr, I guess there really is no substitute for cc’s.

I don’t know much about tuning, but I think toe angle is more important than usual.

Thanks, it never occured to me to check in the leaderboards. Makes sense to use the NC, not only for the bigger engine, but it hase more modern suspension and a stiffer body. Also wider tires but I don't know if that is modeled in the game. Does anybody want to share times using other types of Miatas??

Your right, the RS does have a wider track.

I first used a Miata (NA) 87 – full body and engine restoration,900kg/21kgkm@6400rpm and was running around 1:33/34.

Changed to a RS with 35kgkm@4100 and decreased that by about 3secs.

I’m not the fastest though.

i have been all day trying i made 1.31 just keep going for 10 laps

I _think_ my RS only makes ~21kg/fm with maxed out engine (stage 3 I think).

Does anybody mind sharing their setup? I can share mine too if there is interest. I think my best at the moment is ~1.30 on Autumn Ring

I got 1.30.782 with this setup. I'd love to see what someone can make of it. I'm still playing with the LSD.

Aero: max
Trans: 200kph max speed
LSD:15/10/10
-15/-13
8.1/6.2
6/6. 6/5. 5/5
Camber: 2.0/1.3
Toe: +.07/-.07
Brakes: 5/6

Ty to freshseth83 for the original setup this came from.

Should this thread be in the tuning forum?

Thanks for the settings, what mods on the car? I assume full weight reduction + full drivetrain enhancement but what about engine? NA or turbo?

Full everything, then limited down. I think I used a turbo. But my 5yr old daughter is getting her 3rd license now, I'll look in a minute.

Edit: I assumed that the top leaders were also topping out their hp, and I'm looking to be competative, not just run for a personal best.

Edit:
Wt reduction 3, windows and hood
ECU, stage 3, supercharger.

I'm sure everybody is running as fast as they possibly can. I forgot about adding a spoiler to my RS (doh). Hopefully with that added in my times will improve. Will post my setup none the less.

The gear ratios might help somebody. I found it's worth spending time to customize those given that it's a low HP car and there's even a straight going uphill

I'll have time tomorrow to work on the gear ratios, and I'll post alternate LSD settings for different driving styles.

Edit: LSD 10/20/5. You can get on the throttle harder after entry but it breaks loose easeir. I find it harder to point the nose on entry. If you have good throttle control you might like this setup better. Overall: more oversteer.

Ronald6: Tried your setup last night. Very very good mate. I won't go into detail about the setup I had, since yours had better handling off the bat.

I made some tweaks to your setup. Here's a list in order of importance, last means more imoprtant tweak:

Trans: 200 max is good, tweaked 3rd to be 1.950.. This is a bit taller so doesn't hit the limiter when downshifting for a sec or two in some turns

LSD: 5/40/20 (was 15/10/10) No specific reason/turn I remember, just prefer the feel of the default diff. Maybe gives more traction out of corners?

Brakes: 5/5 (was 5/6) Had the tail step out on me with bias to the back so 5/5 suits me better

Camber: 2.6/1.3 (was 2.0/1.3). More camber on front gives noticably more bite on turn in

Springs: 6.3/6.2 (was 8.1/6.2) Front spring set at 8.1 led to front left tyre overheating in some turns and crucially the last turn before the final straight, so I often messed up that turn and understeered. With spring set at 6.3 the tyre won't overheat anymore and I can take the turn properly.

Overall my time was 1.31.798 after ~10 laps of driving with the finished setup.

I left plenty of time on the track though. Hope to find some more time this week to drive some more (I actually don't like tuning that much, I much prefer working on my driving)

@mef
Thanks for your input.
From yours I tweaked for an hour and got:
LSD 5/20/10
Springrate: 6.3/5.5
Anti-roll bars: 5/6
Camber: 2.6/1.5

Feels better than my previous setup.
