Almost 20 years ago, while getting my Mazdaspeed 3 serviced at a Mazda dealership, I saw a used Mazdaspeed 6 for sale. I loved my 3 but heard amazing things about the 6, but never went for it. A bit of me always regretted it.

Since they don't have the car in Gran Turismo 7, I thought I'd try to tune another car to get that Mazdaspeed 6 feel. I tuned the 2015 Atenza Sedan XD L Package to the best of my basic tuning abilities to get that Mazdaspeed 6 experience.

I've really enjoyed driving this tuned car so far, especially the j the Japanese Clubman Cup550. Still, I wonder if I'm missing something. If anyone has feedback on this tune, I'm open to suggestions on getting this car to be more like a Mazdaspeed 6.

I styled it green on black wheels, like the one I saw many years ago. It's simple, but if anyone is interested in the design: https://www.gran-turismo.com/us/gt7/user/mymenu/c84fe41f-39e8-4496-a18d-83ccb8883914

Looking at the specs of the car and what you have, its not looking too far off. The issue you are going to have is the in game car having the Diesel engine vs the Petrol in the real car. Torque is going to be higher in-game, at the moment it looks to be almost double!

For the power side of things, i would look at using the fully customisable ECU as this would allow you to restrict power and as far as i remember, reducing output with the ECU reduces both power and torque more than using the restrictor. You need to get this down to 274hp and 38.7 kgf · m (but I think torque will be impossible to match).
For the weight, you need an extra 28kg, so add ballast, and i would move it rearward until the weight distribution matches the 60:40
You could check the standard ratios in the gearbox in-game, and if they match, leave it alone; otherwise, buy the full custom manual transmission and match the gear ratios to those in the spec sheet.

If you want to get a little more detailed, have a look at the powerband and where the car is currently making power and torque @What RPM, you can do things like using the high lift cams (can't be removed once added) to move the powerband up in RPM or a different turbo kit.

For suspension height, you could look at the tuning shop and it will tell you the current height. Take this from the specified height, and it should tell you how much you need to go up or down.

The Mazdaspeed 6 is a cool car and for me harks back to the fast 4 saloons of the 90's. Good luck matching it up in game 👍

Thank you for the thoughtful and detailed feedback. I appreciate the support and words of encouragement. I'm looking forward to working on these adjustments and I'll report back on how it went.

Ok. Using the fantastic feedback from @gti_sdn I was able to get pretty close to emulating a Mazdaspeed 6. I matched the ride height, weight, bhp, gear ratios exactly. Almost got there with the weight balance at 61:39, instead of 60:40. The displacement of the engines isn't too far off, but that is what it is.

The big challenge was trying to match the torque. On my initial tune, as gti_sdn noted, the torque on my ride was nearly double what is would be on a Mazdaspeed 6. I had to use a high rpm turbo charger, since the medium and low would increase the torque value much too high. In order to reduce the gap between bhp and torque, I had to add several engine modifications that seemed to only boost bhp or had minimal effect on torque, like high lift cam shafts, engine balance tuning, polish ports and titanium connecting rods and pistons. In the end I was able to get the torque down to 40.5 kgfm vs the real-world value of 38.7 kgf. Not too bad. I just used a combination of ECU and power restrictor adjustment to get the bhp back to 274.

I really enjoyed this experience and the car is fun to drive. I drove it in the Japanese Clubman cup 550. It's PP is a bit low with medium sports tires, at just under 500 PP. I had to put soft sports tires on for a couple of races. I was impressed with the speed that it could maintain through corners. I think it handled great and was a fun driving experience. One strange thing is the narrow gear band for 5th. Seems like I hardly spend but a couple of seconds in that gear. Also, the car gets killed on any significant uphill sections, but dominates downhill.

All in all, this was a fun, challenging and rewarding experience!
