Mcdonald Douglas F4 Phantom

Does anybody know if this aircraft is still used? It would be a shame to see them all withdrawn, as it's one of my favorite American planes. Also, does anybody know how many variants there where (if any)?

Yes, many air forces around the world still fly it. The US no longer flies it in front line action but, countries like Germany, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Spain, etc., fly it in their forces. The US Air Force and Navy have converted QF-4 drones for missile fodder.

There are 8 variants of the F-4 up to the H model.

Thanks Viper. Could you tell me what differences there where between the H model and the original? I'm guessing maybe an improved radar and things like that.

I found out that there are more variants of the F-4 than I thought. The final version for US forces is the J model (9 variants). There are several more for export countries.

The F4-E Phantom is still used in the UK - I believe the nearest base to me is RAF Wittering, in Cambridgeshire. We got buzzed by three in formation, heading due south at about 600mph and 5000ft a couple of weeks ago - and the base is 75 miles north of here...
