With all that has happened with the Ferrari spy stuff and Alonso holding up Hamilton it doesn't seem that Ron Denis is really in control of his team.

It seems like he wants everyone to believe that the team did not benifit from the stolen documents, yet it seems from his statements he knew about them. Surely someone like Denis would not want to risk punishment from the FIA for having them. So was Mike Coughlan acting on his own, a rogue employee? I know that if I was in charge I would have had the documents destroyed and probably give Coughlan a severe reprimand, if not a suspension or termination.

Now we have this sketchy event with Alonso holding up Hamilton. Ron Denis appeared to be very upset by it at first. His saying later it was to punish Hamilton for an earlier offence seems like he is trying to cover his arse and keep his team on the front row.

Both of these situations make it seem like many of the people at the team have their own agendas and are willing to risk the repution of the team for their own gains. (If it was me, I would be putting people down... which is probably why I will never be in that position.)

Or maybe he was in on all of this. Maybe Denis knew that McLaren (especially Hamilton) were too popular and the FIA would not punish them for any cheating. You would think that sponsors would not want to be associated with such a mess but maybe winning is everything.

As for Hamilton, I am impressed with him, I was sick of the press fawning over him, but I do hope he does not suffer for this. He has been with McLaren so long that I think he really would take one for the team knowing that eventually the team would back him up. I hope his loyalty will be rewarded and isn't misplaced. I really hope he wasn't forced into any of this unsavory drama...

I think I am becoming even more of a Heidfeld fan... and Sato too:sly:

You raise a good point. However, Ferrari used to play dirty tricks back in the Schumacher days. That just makes McLaren seem like they are power tripping of something, like Ferrari did. And with Alonso being such a jerk, anything can happen.

I don't think there's a serious power problem in McLaren. Sure, they have their moments, but every team does. Ron Dennis is the last person I'd expect to start losing control over his team.
