BMW Concept X1:

Just in case you’ve ever looked at an X3 and thought “Gosh darn, I wish they made one that had even less cargo space and was uglier.”

I would not consider this a good-ugly(I guess like Hummer, xB, etc.), but maybe 'OK' ugly?

Its official guys: BMW is out of ideas.

Ford Kuga > VW Tiguan > BMW X1.

Holy crap... I was thinking about an X1 this morning, when I looked at an X3 driving past. 'How can they possibly make something less pointless'?. A few hours later, Sage gave me the answer 0_o.

And that's a concept car, which means the production car will look even worse.

Edit: Actually the back looks pretty good, with aspects of the X6 thrown into it. But I still don't see the point in all of this. It's just to fill in an empty number.

Want a small BMW 4x4? Buy the new MINI 4x4 when it comes out. It'll be equally useless off road but at least it'll look better and people will let you out of junctions...

VW Tiguan > Ford Kuga > Leprosy > BMW X1.

Corrected 👍

Oh, no, no, NO! This isn't right at all. It's official - the Germans do have a sense-of-humour!

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Boy thats one 'unfortunate' looking hunk of metal.

Are we sure this isn't a Chinese knock off? Positively?

Because if I had to envision a Chinese X3 clone, THAT would pretty much be it, dimensions aside.

+1 👍

It really is bordering on Aztek or Rodius fugly :yuck:

They should have just gone the X6 route... make the X1 a coupe... but make it a real 2-door coupe. That way, at least, you get the niche buyers. This way? You don't get nuthin' or nobody.

Ye Gods, if this one doesn't fail on the market, it'll be official... BMW's brand cachet is as unholy powerful as Porsche. Next thing you know they'll be marketing the BMW X7... a three-row six seater SUV based on the 7-series (with tilt, recline and footrest-equiiped second and third row buckets).

Give them a little time. Once BMW figures out that they can make a van handle better by making it as stiff (or worse) as an X3, we'll be looking at BMW W (wagen) models coming out... y'know... W3, W5 and of course the special W6 version, the van-coupe where third row occupants sit under a hatch that has to be propped open for anyone over 5'1" to sit comfortably.

Well... in their defense everyone knows they are the [megaphone]ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINES[/megaphone]! :dopey:

:odd: Very strange look. Backheavy and allaround just :yuck: Luckily it´s a concept, so I hope for BMW´s sake that they never put this into production!

Unfortunately, a lot of BMW's recent 'concepts' (ie M5 and M3 Concepts) have not only made it into production, but made it there almost unchanged.

Is it me or do I see something similar here........ :odd:

Anyways, what were BMW thinking!!!! I don't know what they are trying to prove here but what is the point of another SUV in the market? They could spend the money to develop more eco friendly cars like they said they would instead of making these gas guzzling, money wasting, not even look half as good or useful SUV's......

Funnily enough, that is the first thought that sprung to my mind when I saw that picture...

The lines remind me of the new Infiniti FX.

[Ranier Wolfcastle] Mine eyes! The goggles do nothink! [/Ranier Wolfcastle]

That thing is awful - almost as awful as the new FX, which is even awfuller than the old FX. And just as stupidly pointless as the X6 (albeit cheaper).

I'm getting ashamed to be a BMW fan.

Funny how that makes Hyundai's more appealing now. lol

Hey! The Santa Fe's a very good looking car! :grumpy:

That is, compared to this X1, I've never understood the purpose of the X-line. It's as if BMW is doing the same as Toyota, just creating tings to have a large line-up...

Now that's uncalled for! The FX is a great looking car... especially in the flesh. Shouldn't be compared to X1 in terms of styling.

See... the FX and X6 are full-sized vehicles... so there's a selling point there... and I like the old FX and the X6... but the current FX just looks like dog.

People looking at luxury lifestyle vehicles won't be looking for an X1. The X6 works because despite the much debated lack of a fifth seat, it's actually a very comfortable truck and very nice to drive. Ditto the FX. They're just like big old muscle cars... only taller. But the X1?

The X3 is a dog. A complete dog. It handles great, but that's about the only thing it does right. It's too small, it's too uncomfortable, and it looks like absolute dog-turd. An X1 takes everything that makes the X3 bad and removes its one redeeming factor... cargo space.

I don't get how it looks any worse than the X3, which at worse looked awkward from the front and damn right "forgot to design it" at the back.

The bonet line is rather long though. The only other thing throwing me is the logic behind it...

:yuck: I don't want to go off-topic, but I hated the first FX, and I despise the new version. Bloated, fugly-detailed, badly-proportioned tubs of lard. I haven't seen anything that pointlessly huge outside and that surprisingly small inside in quite some time. They're hideous.

The X-series is and always has been a throwaway. As we all know, it began as an SUV cash cow a la the Cayenne, but with all of the fuss over gas prices and fuel mileage, that couldn't last. So BMW followed the popular trend and turned it into a crossover cash cow, and because "ugly" is part of the definition of "crossover," they're using it as an outlet for their designers to unleash their wildest concoctions. That's all.

Believe me, I think this thing is stupid and ugly too, but it has nothing to do with us enthusiasts. That's what BMW's traditional model range is for. Make fun of it all you want, but complaining about this car is akin to complaining that the villain of a movie is mean. ;)

Erm, you must surely be talking about the previous FX. The current one is a dog (a pug to be exact).
