I thought my days of smashing controllers after the New York mission in Driver, where you have to drive three dudes to some other dock type section of town where the cops were ridiculously suicidal... well, if you played Driver you know what I'm saying.

Anyway, I was driven to the point of insanity today by one of the License tests in GT3. Now, I'd already done the frustrating stuff, or so I'd thought, when I completed the Complex String Regulation Time Trial and gotten Gold on all of the S License tests but I was WRONG, WRONG I tell ya. Those were just primers for the Tahiti Maze rally test (the first one where you do some stupid nasty turns over and over and over, then it ends). It broke me and I'm ashamed... okay, no I'm not, just out a Dual Shock 2... And now we get to the point!

What is it that you do, if anything to manage your anger when games get frustrating to the point where you want to spike the controller, or simply smash it until there's nothing left but the frayed end of a wire? How do you cope when you're driven to the edge?

Firstly - I feel your pain on Tahiti Maze, brother. It was the hardest of the Time Trials for me, too.

I have a steering wheel, so I don't have to put the controller down as such - but I find standing, and then jumping around screaming silently, whilst flinging your arms crazily of great benefit.

You get your frustration out and you get some exercise. Everyone's a winner!

Just calm down hold your breath count to 3... now go rent a game with tons of shooting... I prefer red faction... And shoot the **** out of everything in the game... that usually can calm me down, I got the same way in thps3 when it wouldn't do what i wanted it to.

wow i didn't know that they edited posts all i said was **** why do they edit ****... thats really stupid... humm i mean is **** that bad a word... should i use poo from now on is that it?

It's a language filter. Calm down - it's one of the things that keeps things reasonably civil here. You could use poo or something more creative (e.g. shoot the bejesus out of). The site's hosts want an all ages forum, so they want to keep a lid on the language.

You can't sweat the small stuff!

Take up smoking or drinking! just kidding.

I used to get really frustrated at times with certain games, and I too have smashed many a controller and console. But the thing that ended keeping me in check is the impact on the wallet! When I was having to buy new consoles and controlers because I got pissed and threw the controller at the console I calmed down rather quickly. I just started saying to myself "You can't sweat the small ****."
It's amazing how far it has taken me in life.

Peace,

Boom

Strange, I always ended up throwing my Ps1 Dual Shock controller around very often, and it survived for years without any problems. Only late last year the motors that make it shake stopped working except for little spurts now and then.

But my Ps2 dual shock 2 has never been thrown, never been twisted, only been dropped a few times, and it's already stopped shaking and has a rattle like there's stuff rolling around loose in it. I've only had it since February or March too.

Yeah, I'm learning to keep a lid on it. My language was atrocious there for a while. Between the time trials, license tests, and some of the timed challenges in 'Jak and Daxter' and the 'Spyro the Dragon' series, I was getting pretty uptight. Now I'm learning to just put the controller down and give someone else a turn while I simmer down.

researching time trials and found this helpful thread.

I have just started dealing with the time trials and will review these tips frequently.
Having recently battled thru the 'S' Licenses I can tell you first-hand that anger management needs to be embraced

Force yourself to laugh, you'll feel better by turning what pissed you off into a funny situation. Or scream into a pillow for a few minutes, pick up a cat and squeeze it as hard as you can until it squeeks or anything like that.

uhh, first of all, i didn't think the tahiti maze TT or the licence was hard... sorta easy for me cuz i'm a drift freak ^_^, but if something does frustrate me.....i just punch the wall, usually making a big dent in the shape of my fist if i'm pissed enuf not to feel anything or sometimes i just punch the wall and start running around the house cuz of the pain

Are you punching holes in "your" wall's or your parents walls?

Well, Dolby.. one thing that always helps is to find others who are in a more dire situation!!! :)

Seriously.. one thing to do (that you are doing) is to come to the boards and vent a little. It'll likely bring about the input you'll need to get by your obstacles.

And if misery loves company... Hang in there. The first time I went for all-gold licenses, I remember this one (R6, I assume) being the toughest at the time, taking me nearly 3 days to complete (R8 took me 3 days!). I kept saying to myself: "How the HELL could the demo get that time, when I'm doing the SAME thing??".

But, I kept watching the demo, and finally figured out what I was doing wrong...

For me (and I don't know if this is what's giving you trouble), I had to learn how to turn the car with the accelerator. It took many, many, many attempts before I learned how to set the car in the right position with the right speed, and use the gas to pull the car into and/or out of a turn. Finally, after a lot of thumbpain and mental anguish, I eventually got the gold for this one.

And you will too, but the programmers didn't make it easy. Just hang in there, and try to turn frustration into motivation. I just went through Super Speedway 150 10 times (9 times before I finally saved the 10th) just to get the Clio Sport Race Car. Knowing that you've gone through the trouble of getting nearly every F1 (type AND color!!!), I'm sure you're familiar with patience and determination. ;)

... and have a great drive!

It's been a while since I posted that Hazzard. I did in the end have to relearn the dirt technique to get that license gold. I'd gotten by on 'grip' skills all this time and a single test forced me to change... at least for that one situation!

Since then I have completed the entire game... so I guess you could say, since I got my 100% about a week or so ago and that post was 07/28/02 and it was the end of getting golds... which took me about a week... (does math) it must have taken me about 10 weeks to complete the game.

I never get angry now.
I kinda do, but it stays in my head.

It's weird though.
There is not much that will make me angry anymore.

gah!@ the rally ones were easy 4 me :p

i am stuck with the s licence :(
i have s1, 3 and 4.....

how on earth do you steer the giffin or whatever it is around!!!

Yea exercise does it for me, gee people use Herbal 🤬 to relax (especially women :bride: ) but all they need is a good hard run.. fuel any rage and anger to your legs :burnout:

Im good at the Tahiti maze test...I got the gold first try the other day on my other game I started...I was soo surprised that I got it...

Man.. I didn't even notice the date on the post.. Good to know you got past it without further problem...

100% in 10 weeks? Jeez! The way things are going for me, it'll take me at least twice as long for my current gamesave. Do you have a link to your final stats (just after achieving 100%)? I'd love to see what 100% garages look like... I overwrote my very first game, which had like 93%...

I know you've been working on the ultimate F1 collection... Did you get 'em all, and how long (approx) have you spent trying to acquire them? And as a side note, I was also wondering if you had car values (garage and resale) for the Ford GT40 Race Car, the Opel Calibra Touring Car, and the Jaguar XJ220 Race Car...

... and if all of this can be answered through other threads, could you point da way?

Thanks in advance, DT! Have a great drive!

Here's a copy of the post I made right after completing the game in that "And Now, The End is Near" thread somone else posted.

 The final race was 3 laps around Grand Valley Speedway to complete the Gran Turismo World Championship series at the end of Beginner mode.

Quadruple Word Score!

Prize car for winning the series: Celica GT-Four (ST205,J)
Prize car for completing Beginner: Lancer Evolution V GSR(J)
Prize car for completing Simulation Mode: F688/S
Prize car for 100% complete: F094/S

I won four cars after 1 race! That was totally cool, it was like hitting the slots and the coins just wouldn't stop falling into the tray or something.

Game Status

Complete: 100%
Prize Total: Cr 11,914,000
Wins: 344 / Races: 370 = Win Ratio: 92%
Licenses Acquired: [R] Gold: 48
Cars Owned: 100
Total Mileage: 11080.2
Total Car Value: Cr 55,962,940
Bonus Cars Aquired: 103
Torphies Acquired: 411

If anybody wants a copy of this save just let me know and I'll send you the sharkport. There is a copy of every prize car awarded that I won including 6 different types of F1 Cars and all of the Gold License awards.

Wow, what a ride.

There's a copy of that particular save at my Yahoo group, where I stash all of my .sps files for sharing with others if you want to check it out the link's in my sig.

I have been collecting the F1 cars since I made 100%... or I should say I've been collecting 'sets' of prize cars. As of now, I have all but 1 of the F1 variations. I'm missing the black/yellow/white version of the F094/H still but I'll get it eventually. You could say then, that it's an ongoing quest.

Sorry to report that I haven't acquired the GT40RC, Calibra TC or the XJ220RC cars just yet. When I do get them (they're next on myt list) I'll post the numbers for you. I just finished collecting all of the different LM models in all available colors, and am now completing my Race Car quest. Soon, my OLR car collection will be complete and I'll be sure to put that save on the Yahoo page as well.

Let me know if you're looking for anything else in particular and I'll do what I can to get you the information!

VERY COOL! I'm currently going through your "Duplicating Cars" thread, trying to figure out the procedure to save my "undesirable" prize cars... I'll save my questions for that thread, though.

Whatcha gonna do when you get that final F1? I've got similar plans as yours for after I reach 100% (for the first time, on my 3rd gamesave), and your technique will sure come in handy.

Anyway, thanks for the offers, as I'm sure I'll be hitting you up for some 411!

Have a great drive!

Yes, Tahiti Maze was pure heck... :p

Anyway, sometimes it helps to throw your anger onto the car... go to sim mode, and just start flinging your [and other] cars around until you're satisfied. :D
