This I have found to be true. Me and a buddy took WRC cars to the Nurburgring for a destruction derby basically. When I reached the long straightaway, my car pulled hard to the left on its own and would not reach any speed higher than 91 mph. Test this for yourselves...as we were too busy admiring doors flying off and such, that we didnt notice this type of damage until we reached this long straight. Now, on the other hand, I haven't seen this in GT Life or anything else. We were online when this happened so I have no idea if this is true for other modes of gameplay.

Sounds more like your analog stick leans slightly to the left, happens with all of my 360 controllers too.

Particularly as Kaz has mentioned mechanical damage is an upcoming feature.

NO sir...checked that...and how do you explain a WRC car only reaching 91 mph?! Cmon...and I know it's not my controller because I bought it less than a week ago...and yes I am aware of analog sticks doing this so that was the first thing I thought too but that's not the case here...

Funny story, this happend to me in GT4 (yeah i know what it sounds like but none the less)... me and a buddy was racing same track with a EVO Lancer and a Impreza STi. At one point in the race after my buddy crashed numerous times, the Impreza wouldn't move, at all. Next time i passed him, i hit him, and he got the car moving again, but it wouldn't drive very fast...

probably just a glitch or something :)

body damage

if the engine is screwed do this again, leave the game, save, enter the race to make sure you only do 91mph, leave overhaul engine, see if you go faster.

a new engine means no engine damage

Using a wheel? I have seen the logitech wheels misscalibrate a few degrees off the left mid game as well as the brake pedal stick a bit.

Either way, hasn't Kaz said himself mechanical damage isn't in right now?

What other explanations can you give other than glitches and controller/wheel faults? Why don't y'all try this for yourselves and see what happens instead of telling me I am wrong when I KNOW WHAT I WITNESSED...and I am using a controller with NO ANALOG FAULTS WHAT SO EVER.

I have... many of us have... I have yet to experience anything close to what you are talking about.

Which seems more likely to you:

Kaz confirmed there is no mechanical damage incorrectly and we have all failed to find any of it by sheer luck

or

You experienced some kind of one off glitch?

That's why we are all skeptical... it seems unlikely to be true.

Yeah dude we're not saying you're lying or anything but look how many people have played the game, had crashes and experienced nothing. If mechanical damage is actually in the game, it's severely broken.

were your tiresworn out? if one tired is more worn out than the other your car will pull together the side... ex indy 500 endurance race

A group of us Premos had WRCs at Daytona hitting each other head on at full speed and such. After way too many hits my car's steering was wobbly. Some tiny amount of damage does exist, it just takes about 200 more crashes than it should for it to show up.

I got this same track, same car and I have a wheel and it goes to the left after a few crashes and I did it with the zonda R as well but no other cars.

My idiot b-spec driver bent up the front of one of my standard cars racing, but it was straight in the next race. I thought that was strange.

Yea man, I personally hardly get a dent in my cars. Even tried to race my WRC car, and couldn't get much to happen. Wonder why?..

Sigh, I want heavy damage. Not this noobie stuff PD thinks we can only handle or something of that sorts..

I also experienced mechanical damage on the ford focus WRC. I was crashing the car in Daytona and after 20 minutes of crashing into opponents, I could only reach 144kmh.. However, after another crash, the speed wasn't limited anymore.

Edit: my car door was open when this happened. When the door came out, everything went back to normal.

I've had my Corvette turn into the wall during my grinding (Indy, you only turn left, why my car went hard right is beyond me). This occurred in consecutive races. Did a complete restore on the car and all is good.

Personally I thought it was a glitch at the time and I've had nothing similar happen since. My controllers are old so that's also a possibility.

I've also had my B-Spec guy incur heavy body damage during the Lambo race. Bodywork was fixed automatically afterwards (I'm assuming that is normal policy).

Maybe mechanical damage is in the game, but has been deactivated. It's plausible that PD hadn't finished the mechanical damage so they blocked it off and it can only be accessed through glitches until the damage patch is released?

Yes PD definately has some work to be doing. But no my tires weren't unusually worn or anything. I have gone back and tried this seems like a hundred times with the same effect. And yes you have to crash A LOT to get this to happen. Just one good hit to a wall at 200+ mph in real life = death. Hate to say it but it's true and we all know it. So why when you hit a wall at 200+ do you get a few scrapes and scratches or dents but no totaled car?! Not realistic damage at all.

I smashed a car doing over 160mph head on into a wall, stopped instantly, then drove away with just a scratch and no mechanical damage.

People need to stop defending the damage system in this game, its probably the laziest damage ive seen in over 10 years. It needs a lot of work.

The OP is right, WRC cars have indeed some sort of mechanical damage. Yesterday I smashed the C4 to get the trophy for loosing a door. After a while the car was not able to reach its maximum speed anymore and steered constantly to the left.

I too can vouch for this. I used a rally car to get the trophy for losing a part off your car, and after 15 minutes of crashing my car, it steered slightly sideways. It was way most noticeable when going off jumps; it would take off weird and always fly thru the air at the same sideways angle.

I'm in NO WAY defending the awful damage system; it's pathetic. But it appears that at least in some rally cars, mechanical damage DID make it into the game.

I remember in one of Chris's videos, he seemed to have mechanical damage on one of his rear tyres overheating after becoming Level 10:

Here's the video:

After 3:55 on this video.

I am still holding out for PD to patch in a proper damage system. It seems to be off or set to like 0.000001%. I don't care for the visual fluff like hanging bumpers or warped hoods or doors swinging open. I care about the affects to the car after an incident. Redlining a lot or aggressive downshifting should affect engine/drivetrain performance as it would in real life just like mashing a wall on side or head on should affect at minimum handling performance of the car. It doesn't have to be 100% accurate because in real life so many different things can happen with so many different results but something believable. It promotes better driving and prevents the wall riding bump n run Timmy's.. This mechanical damage should also exist throughout all 1000+ cars, not just select premium WRCs

If any kind of mechanical damage exists it's almost certainly limited to tire wear, since the indicator actually exists in the game in the first place. I've spent 15 minutes smashing up rally cars too in order to get the trophy for losing a part. I did it on gravel... no tire wear and thus no mechanical damage at all.

I went to arcade then chose the WRC citroen and drove around for ages smashing into on coming cars. After a long time the door fell off and I got the trophy.

The car then would only do about 70-80 and not in a straight line ?

If you would have lost the other door, the car would have drove perfectly fine.

I did this on launch day, and nobody believed me.

I spent about 30 mins driving backwards around Daytona. After so many crashes, my car couldn't even drive in a straight line or get above 80mph.

hmmmmm... this doesn't surprise me, because if you think about it 15 minuites is a tiny amount of time for a road/sports tire to wear out. After doing multiple burnouts with the sports soft tires I wore it down slightly (although no noticable difference in handling), but it's there.

And maybe people who are noticing 'mechanical damage', I think it could just be the aerodynamics playing a part, because if you loose a door it would affect the handling massively. So if it was real life it would make a massive difference and if you have your window open it decreases top speed by something like 5%, so a door will make a massive difference.
