I am using Media Player 10 on my home pc, and it works fine apart from one annoying thing.

Every so often videos come in .asf format. In the past I'm sure media player recognised this file type fine. But mine doesn't :grumpy:

If I right click on the .asf file and "open with" and select media player, it plays the file fine, but the check box to "always use this program with files of this type" is greyed out so I cant select it. In file types in media player i have "selected all" although .asf is not one of them.

How can I associate this file type with my media player?

Thanks

Open up Windows Explorer.

Go to Tools > Folder Options

Select the "File Types" tab.

You should see a list of all the file types and extensions your computer recognises. If ASF is listed, then you should be able to change the program it opens with. If it isn't there, then you can click "New" and create a new file type for ASF extensions and then associate them with Windows Media Player by clicking the "Change" button which allows you to associate a file type with an application by selecting an application to open those files with.
