that last banned user log thread was purely incidental, was just here to start a thread about a possible hall of fame for most appreciated posters of all time.

not sure where to go with this, but I was thinking maybe that taking some nominations and then opening up a poll could lead to some much deserved recognition for some of the people who have contributed the most to our collective GT experience by sharing their insights and wisdom over the years.

Not sure if anything like this has been done before, but it might be fun.

I was also thinking that the top of the list could be awarded some prizes of their selection funded by some sort of donation pool, though of course I have no idea how that could be managed, since I'm not involved in the behind the scenes work at GTPlanet. But I'd donate $10 through paypal to see somebody get a PS3 and GT5 delivered if that's what they wanted, or a wheel, or the super-duper seat and wheel combo, and there are so many users here I imagine something like this could get $1000+ donated pretty easily to show our appreciation.

I was just reviewing a thread by sucahyo (though he hasn't been active in a long time) and was struck by how awesome some of the members of GTPlanet are and felt like it would be nice to do something to recognize that.

What do you think, anybody? Mods? How would this work if people are interested? Good idea or not?

I think the satisfaction of helping one person or a hundred people is enough payment to be honest. If you have cash prizes offered the trolls will be scanning strategy guides, copying and pasting and generally being pests. It would be pandemonium.

Yeah, the forums shouldn't be a competition. And most of the forum All-Stars are already known to us. Would anybody here willingly compete with the likes of Famine for the title of Hall of Famine Famer?

If you want to appreciate a person's posting, you can do so by contacting them privately or by posting in the thread in responsise to them (however, you should definitely add some more content than a simple thank-you ... warm fuzzies are nice, but insubstantial and will likely attract the ire of the moderators).

A Hall of Fame isn't exactly necessary. I agree that it may simply cause people to spam the boards with "helpful" threads or posts copy-pasted from all across the internet.

There are people who do that already without a "Hall of Fame" or a "Reputation" system.

If I had a penny for every time I've had to tell members on another forum I moderate to add quote marks and a hyperlink to copy-pasted articles... I'd have a bunch of pennies.

There's also the problem of having people wanting to butt heads with those they see as prominent members just to assert their online alpha dog status. Which we definitely don't want.

Then again, Famine already gets a lot of that kind of attention.

I think a possible better idea than this would be a log of the GTPawards winners from the past, then keep on adding to it any year. If someone should be represented on the hall of fame then they are sure to be found in the GTPawards.

Yeah, I see the points about now wanting to reward monetarily, and that appreciated posters already hear that they are valued. Wasn't aware of the GTPawards, which already satisfy the intent of a hall of fame sort of thing.

Consider the suggestion withdrawn.

Yeah, I'd rather see a list of the GTP Award winners. Of course with a HOF, we already know the greats, Jordan, Famine, the original GTP members, etc. etc.
