Mempile has announced its next-generation optical storage disc. The TeraDisc, a concept of which has been demonstrated in Japan, can store up to 1 terabyte (TB) of data on a single platter, using over 100 virtual layers.
The first discs widely available will be expected to hold 500GB - still ten times the capacity of a Blu-ray disc - but won't be available until around 2010.
