Menu 4 High Speed Ring challenge - Help!

No matter what car I drive (e.g. Porsche 996 541 PP, Nissan GTR 548 PP) I can't keep my pace-up enough to beat a VW Beatle and a host of Japanese econoboxes.

I am a pretty capable driver with decades of experience in videogame racing, but I still haven't been able to get into the top 3 even on the beginner setting.

HELP!

BTW - I'm already very embarrassed for not getting past this. So, add-on if you want, but please provide a solution with your insults/snide remarks.
 
Lower Brake pressure... Dont try to get the Maximum Speed.. better Drive Safe and smooth...
 
you should be able to tune any car your driving to the exact limit allowee in rhe race go get More POWER baby lmao

I so appreciate your responses. I think I have the cars set to go as fast as they can go, but I hadn't considered taking some pressure off the throttle.

Soft hands, and "slow is fast."
