Hey guys,

Just was wondering if anyone has information/advice on this car. Theres one for sale near me in awesome condition (apparently it only has 70,000km on it ) with exterior, interior etc in really good nic.

Its an 86', however I'm not sure if they made the 2.5 that early (?). Wiki says that it was introduced in 88'. Theres a pic of the engine and its obviously a 2.5 cosworth so it might just be a mistake by the owner.

Anyway, any advice or information on this would be muchly appreciated, I dont really have that much of a car minded brain (I know how to change the oil and put gas in my car :dopey:. . . . . . hah), I do understant the basics of how stuff works, but I am really interested in learning and want to learn heaps more!

Thanks guys

Top Gear ages ago said it was a great car.

I'd love one - and the Cosworth badge would give you heaps of Street cred with the people that know about cars.

Assumption only, but if things go wrong with that engine it's going to be a big bill. And that's more-so than repairing any other old Merc.

From what I have read about these cars they are a great drive, fast and great handling with a nice ride to match.
If it has done genuine 70,000km I doubt there would be anything to worry about mechanically as long it is has been serviced regularly. They 16V motors have a cam chain so no cambelts to worry about. The engine and gearbox are solid units. The big thing is making sure that it has actually done the indicated mileage and if it has receipts, even better. The rear shocks are self levelling hydralic ones that cost moonbeams if they start to go so make sure to check them out.
The best idea would be to get it a prepurchase check done by an independant MB specialist workshop that has experience with these cars and who know what to look for.
Have a check on www.carjam.co.nz to check the mileage too.

Nah thats not the one, heres the link for it

Yeh I'm assuming that things would be way more expensive and take time to get but thats why I was asking for advice on it to see if it was a generally realiable car. My mate has an old 325i bmw (e30 i think) and I'd like something along the lines of what he has. But everyone these days is getting an old bmw, sticking it on chromies and grinding it along the road. So bmw's dont really appeal to me atm.

I think I asked about this car here before. Those 70k kms were undoubtedly hard kms.

Thanks revheadnz, always forgot about that site.

Putting in its numberplate and I find that the car has done 300,000 ish miles and that its actually a 2.3 190e. The owner (or previous) has obviously done an engine swap then because theres a pic of the 2.5 in the car, so the engine has maybe done the 70k kms. Probably a good idea to stay away from this car me thinks now. . .
