Call Me ELK (?)

Not much to report here, there have been a lot of spots of test mules on various websites. This, I suppose, are the best photos overall for the yet unveiled car.

I like the idea of the car, I just hope it doesn't have a name that is stupid.

I'm surprised you didn't notice the blue Tesla in the background.

Like the styling, don't like 'ELK'. Why didn't they just keep CLK?

They will probably just called it the E-Class Coupe... ELK would be better though. :sly:

Oh I also just noticed the Tesla..

This is their chance to revert back to something that makes a lot of sense. I think ELK would be better. Then we still know what it is but it still fits in with the rest of the M-B naming system. Although then there would be logistical problems when they try to rename the CL to SLK.

I'm sure people have thought of this, but there is one potential problem with this name.

in my opinion mercedes benz is making way too many models now. they should have just stuck to the models from like 10 years ago.

I still prefere the old E Class (w210) AMG models!

What is that blue car in the background?

Hate to ask, but is that actually a coupe? It appears to (from that angle) have rear windows that are too big to be on a two door.

Read windows are likely designed to go down, and wouldn't work well with how they appear to sit over the rear wheels a bit.

You do know the CLK has been around much longer than the CLS, right?

And the ELK has been around for how much time?

The ELK is a new model that mimics the CLS. Look at the roof line, the C-Pillar. Where will this be placed within their price brackets? There is no room, it overlays different models, it's a useless product.

It looks absolutely beautiful, but frankly, so does the CLS. Since both are based upon the E-Klasse, I don't see much point in it.

It may be marginally more stylish, but I've simply fallen in love with CLS. CLS was the first Mercedes to have this realm of style, and that it manages that with four doors is astonishing. I consistently drool when I pass this beautiful pearl white CLS every day in the parking lot. Gorgeous!

Was I the only one more drawn to the Tesla in the backround? This Merc looks like a slug from that angle, and I sure do hope the glass does indeed roll all the way down. Awkwaaard.

I'm glad everyone spotted the secret Tesla... Bonus points to you. I have to wonder if the photographer had a moral dilemma; Do I take pictures of the super-rare Tesla? Or do I take pictures of that Mercedes... thing...?

RE: "ELK" Name

I made that part up, noting official from Mercedes on that. Yes, the animal name was intended.

Shazam!

Looks like a mini CL. Still not sure who decided it was necessary.

Well it's there to complete the line! Little coupe/sedan (CLK/C), medium coupe/sedan ("ELK"/E), large coupe/sedan (CL/S).

So will the high-performance version be called the [wikipedia]Black Elk[/wikipedia] Series?

...I'll get my coat.

The door looks like it should be longer, and that greenhouse is quite ungainly.

Has the economic crisis led to a sharp increase in the price of film? ;)

Oh come on, give it some credit. At least go back to something worth mentioning, like the W123 300CE. :P
