At the Dubai Motor Show in December, the "Unimog U 500 Black Edition" premiered as an offering to wealthy desert-dwellers. It is a similar luxury offering comparable to the Funmog.

The Unimog U500 Black edition uses a 4.8 Litre, Turbocharged engine pushing out 280 BHP, this power is delivered to the road by it's 4WD setup.

0 - 100 km/h Time = 6.5 secs
Top Speed = 120 km/h

Weight: 7,500kg ~4300kg (amended 27/11/2014)
Torque: 1120Nm or 829lb/ft

6.5 seconds is extremely respectable for a vehicle of such immense weight and with only 280 bhp at its disposal...

6.5? Damn, that's good. That would be respectable in a sedan with the same horsepower and half the mass. Must be the torque. I guess that's kind of a thing with big diesel engines.

7500 kilograms? I think it's actually 7500 pounds. I don't think a 16,500 pound vehicle with a 280 horsepower anything could reach 60 (or 62) mph that quickly without complete disregard of physics. That said, I have my doubts about even a 7500 pound truck with 280 horsepower accelerating. Though I was skeptical about GM's claims for the new Corvette Z06, but they were spot on.

I wouldn't confuse pounds and kilograms, my old source definitely has the weight wrong, they seem to have quoted the approximate payload instead. After searching around, it seems very, very hard to find the curb weight of a U500 series Unimog. Subtracting the carrying capacity of 16,530 pounds from the GVW of 26,000 pounds (source), I can say with some confidence that a similar Unimog weighs roughly 9,500 pounds or 4,300kg.

So, how could an even heavier vehicle than you predicted accelerate so quickly? Three factors (assuming the 0-100 time is correct):
1. The gearing is quite narrow
2. It produces more torque than two Ferrari 458 Italias, or nine '93 Ford Lasers
3. Brabus are crazy, they can do anything.

Yup, look at the OP - top speed is only 120km/h. Narrow gearing.

Probably because the top speed is governed. Though I don't doubt that the gearing is super short. Also, I just noticed that the post about the specs was amended.
