goodyear tyres? i thought only michellin and bridgestone were allowed in F1? though i like the dirt-effect on them :P

When Mercedes McLaren F1 team first had the "west" sponser, their tyres were "goodyear".

I 'd have thought the fact the tyres were slicks rather than the current grooved tyres would have been a hint that it was an old model.

Goodyear were sole suppliers for some years, even seeing off Pirelli between '89-91 (and also in the mid '80's if I recall correctly). They pulled out in '98, and left Bridgestone (who entered in '96 with Arrows - remember Hill nearly winning?) sole supplier until Michelin rolled in for the 2001 season.

i kinda stopped watching formula one shortly after vielneuve won his title. then resumed last year or so. i was under the impression that since mclaren changed their car to silver they had always been on bridgestone/grooved tyres. well pointed out.
