Hi guys, I hope this is the right location, otherwise please move it.

So the other day I read a news article on the MG5, and saw a picture of it, here's a link.

And when I saw the image, my mind immediately thought of the Golf Mk VII (concept anyway). I think they might both be concepts, but the MG from what I understand is closer to development.

Take a look at the Golf Mk VII and see if it looks similar or not to you.

It looks similar in the way that all 2-box hatches look similar, but I really think the MG5 looks more like a Mazda2 than it does the Golf, and the Golf carries carries the recent VAG design language very faithfully.

The Mazda 2 is too small and cutcy though, and not all hatches look alike either (not at all really), so I think the fact that these too do is another example of global consciousness working against itself.

Great thing about the Golf MK VII, is that if the standard model looks that good, the performance models won't have to work as hard to look even better.

This is the right section isn't it?

I don't think it looks anything like the Golf. I do agree with above though that it looks more like a Mazda2.

Too me it has it's own specific look. With that said it shares a platform with the Roewe 350 which remind's me alot of the new Dart.

Engine options are expected to include a 100*bhp 1.5 L four-cylinder engine, plus a 1.8 L 133*bhp turbocharged variant, most likely the TCI-Tech (Upgraded K-Series engine) 1.8 L engine with 133 bhp (99 kW; 135 PS) used in the MG6 GT.

The cut lines, exaggerated front fenders, greenhouse and overall silhouette screamed Mazda2 to me, regardless of dimensions...and then I looked at the profile. Nope, nothing there to skew my opinion.
