Geez, I swear this trailer created more questions than it did to solve any.

Here are my theories and facts:

There are two Snakes. The one everyone knows, Solid Snake, and Naked Snake/Big Boss (referred to the name Jack as well. Jack was the name of Big Boss). If you watch all the trailers closely, Snake is seen in one locations at different times (look for the bridge scenes) with a bandana and without. Solid Snake always wears a bandana and Naked Snake appears without one. With all the "ReLive" and "Survive" quotes throughout the trailers, it's plausible that Solid Snake is reliving what Naked Snake has gone through and that Naked Snake is only shown in cutscenes, not gameplay.

A new character has risen. The Boss (not to be confused with Big Boss) is the older looking woman on horseback but, is also the one who fights Naked Snake on the bridge. Another reason why there are two different time frames. There seems to be a love interest between The Boss and Big Boss.

Volgin (the colonel lightning guy) tells The Boss to cut out Naked Snake's eyes to prove that she truly has defected. In the previous MGS games, it is said that Big Boss lost is right eye. Volgin goes on to say that he "don't like those blue eyes of his". Big Boss had blue eyes, Solid Snake had green eyes.

Solidus Snake in MGS2 gave Raiden the name "Jack" because Raiden reminded him of Big Boss. Raiden briefly used the name "Snake" before Solidus Snake hijacked the name.

During the motorcycle chase scene with the Metal Gear, a woman is helping out Solid Snake. She is the one with the large clevlidge and black bra. She seems to have an interest with Snake as well.

Shagohod is the name of the Metal Gear.

The aircraft in the beginning was an M-21 Blackbird, the forerunner to the SR-71 Blackbird. Snake was riding in the D-21 drone that is launched from the M-21.

At the end of the trailer, another reference to The Patriots is mentioned.

I'm done with the conspiracy theories. :boggled: Go and download the trailer!

I'm still thinking it's only one Snake in there. However he does two different insertion jumps (the new one from the jet with the skull face paint on). My guess is that the new one would be a second mission after trying to rescue sokolov, because why would you call a rescue/escort mission "Snake Eater"?

The Boss proves that there are two Snakes. One where she fights Snake (without bandana) on the bridge and one, looking much older, riding on a white horse and fighting with a totally different Snake (with a bandana).

The Snake that has his right eye missing is Naked Snake/Big Boss/Jack.

The rescue mission is called Snake Eater. Why? I don't know.

Viper, i totally agree with you. I was thinking the same, lol. :)

Damnit, i can't wait any longer. Give me the game. Oh wait, i live in Europe. Hmm.. mid 2005 or so :/

Something tells me that Volgin and The Boss aren't completely human.I mean she lifts the box with the nuclear shell with one hand and with ease. Those things are really really heavy. And there is just no way one can lift that, especially the way she does it.And what's the deal with Volgin's hands? Are they mechanical?I mean electricity is coming from them.

I also noticed the Snake with bandana and Snake without it.But i don't think that says much.I mean look at MGS2.Solid Snake and Iroquoi Pliskin are the same person, one with bandana and one without so that doesn't say anything.
That Kojima sure knows how the mess with peoples minds.

I could tell there was two Snakes a long time ago. I noticed the difference in the handguns. Big Boss has a standard US Military issue Springfield Armory Government .45 Auto, and Solid Snake has his HK USP.

humbo
Yes but we are talking about in MGS3 only. I believe there's only one Snake in this one, and that it's Big Boss.
I was, as well as everybody else, talking about MGS3. Watch the E3 trailer, when we finaly see the young Ocelot. Notice, the Snake character had blue eys and no bandana. Then, the rest of the shots had Solid Snake with his bandana, and his HK USP, when he had it. Notice the scenes with Big Boss and The Boss, Big Boss never has a bandana and uses a Springfield Armory with silencer. Big Boss wont be a playable character, unless you get to play him in the beginning of the game. That makes sense, because something like that happened with MGS2: Sons Of Liberty.

this game takes place in the 60's... 1964 to be excact!

in the 60's big boss was in his 30's ..
in shadow moses solid snake was in his 30's too

so it cant be solid snake in 1964...
if you noticed in the trailer....the boss called snake "Jack"... now solid snake's real name is David...so its definetly big boss that we're playin (nicked named big boss after defeating the boss)

there are 2 chapters... which explains the 2 different insertion methods

OMFG is an understatement... :dunce:

so it cant be solid snake in 1964...
Duh, Solid Snake is reliving what Naked Snake has gone through. There are two time frames, one in 1964 and one in 2009. It's very apparent if you watch the trailers. If you read my post, I explained why there are two Snakes and the differences between them.

Viper Zero

which trailer shows its 2009?

I've seen the intro vid of the mgs3 demo... in the intro it shows "august 24,1964" before naked snake does the halo jump from the plane....now that part was shown in the trailer before the latest one... here's the intro
(64MB) its worth the download!! :)

now from what have seen in the new trailer...it clearly shows that its a different chapter (because of its insertion method) yet still in the 60's ... i'll tell you why

if you watch closely...snake wears a green bandana ....now solid snake where a greyish one...which shows that naked snake is the one wearing the green bandana....
and also they show that "the boss" doesnt where the bandana in 2 parts(in the helicopter and on the horse) because she has already givin "naked snake" her bandana ..

rite at the end you'll also noticed naked snake with a bandana and without an eye.... (which clearly shows its "Big Boss")

also notice the young ocelot :)

I did hear a rumour that time travel may be involved....but I think that's too far fetched, even for Hideo Kojima!!!

Certainly there are at least two parts to the game. Two Snakes?...who can say. But certainly when you see The Boss give "a" Snake a kicking on the bridge and severly breaks his arm you're not going to play the rest of the game with a character with one good arm! Whether or not it's two Snakes is hard to tell. But I think I will fall on the side of two time periods and two Snakes.

I would have thought Kojima would want to put a full stop on the story of the Patriots etc. To do that he would need to include a time period immediately after MGS2 ended (though without Raiden..hooray!!). A Trilogy if you like. And considering it is supposed to be the last Metal Gear Solid game he himself will make I would have expected him to wrap everything up.

But then again................................. :boggled:

PS After watching the video clips again I'm not sure.......Ah hell....I ain't gonna try and figure this out, it's making my brain bleed...

which trailer shows its 2009?
Haha, be more observant! The date counts down from 2009 to 1964 in the E4 2004 trailer. MGS2 was in 2009.

Solid Snake is the only one wearing the bandana.

I don't know why everyone hates The Patriots storyline. I like it, it's very mysterious, like a conspiracy.

The whole patriots storyline is very, very deep. MGS2 only dipped it's toe into it. Also if anyones seen the Japanese trailer, theres a character thal looks just like Raiden in it, the Colonel grabs his balls like the ex-president did in MGS2. Snake takes some beatings in that vid, he gets hiss ass whooped by The Boss and the Colonel and it shows what looks like a scene of him defecting to the Russians, he's dressed up in a uniform and he salutes and a tear runs down his face. It's full of cool hints like when snake beats Revolver Ocelot and doesn't kill him, he tells him he's pretty good and I'm betting he gets Ocelot onto his side then.

I've heard some people suggesting that the young Ocelot in MGS3 and Raiden in MGS2 are related!! I must admit, Ocelot in MGS3 does sound a lot like Raiden, though why he's not speaking with a Russian accent, I'm unsure (I think the same actor from MGS2, Quinton Flynn, is in MGS3). Actually I don't think anyones got a Russian accent in the vids I've seen!

The question remains however; are there two different Snakes in two time periods or the one back in '64?

Ocelot is American that's why he doesn't speak with a Russian accent. That clip where Volgin grabs Raiden's balls was a joke and was intended just for laughs according to Kojima. The trailers also showed 4 years i.e 1961,'62,'63, and '64 so i guess that means that the game spans across 4 years. That might be the reason why we see different looking versions of Snake.I can't explain the scene where he is all dressed up and is saluting.Someone close to him probably dies during the course of the game and i think that might be The Boss, however that is 99.8% unsure as Kojima ain't a very predictable man.

It can't be The Boss because we see both Solid Snake and Big Boss talking to her. But, it could be a trick of The Boss to fake her death. Does anybody remember what happened to her in the story of Fox Hound in MGS2 notes?

Also, I did notice that Big Boss did have a bandana! He was wearing it, and he had his Springfield Armory .45 pistol in hand. So, it looks like Big Boss might just be a playable character, which you can get a bandana for. It's all too hard to say since there is no official news on the game, and its playable characters.

Yes! Sorry, but I don't know how many times I have to say it.

The final MGS3 trailer is now available, and again with a funny ending. I wont spill the beans what's in there, but it does show the boss characters you'll be fighting against. It was hard to tell if Snake was Solid Snake or Big Boss. I keep looking for Big Boss's knife. It is placed on his upper left chest in a scabbard diagonally. Solid's knife is vertical.

Oh, don't search the site, go straight for the trailers, or you might spoil the surprises. The trailer is streaming only.

The new trailer is awesome even though there is lots of noise in the background.

Just a few captures from the trailer:
