Hi all,

A small questions for the community ;) There are 2 , as it seems, great games comming out in the beginning of September 2015. What will your choice be?

Are you more interested in the adventures of Solid Snake with stealth gameplay or are you more into the vehicle- and melee combat in the world of Max Rockatansky?

Anyway to refresh your memories :D

Metal Gear Solid 5

Mad Max

I think both look great but I am more attracted to the vehicle combat a crazyness of Mad Max.

Discuss

The only reason Mad Max doesn't have a real chance is because MGS has created a name for itself since the PSX era. Mad Max is new and refreshing and it focusses much more on the action elements. MGS seems a lot less fast paced and it has traditional gameplay since the beginning of it's franchine.

As said, I will take the direction of Mad Max because it offers an experience I won't find in an another game and certainly not in MGS. I find MGS rather boring to play. I really like the way the caracters and story is done in MGS but gameplaywise it can't keep me interested.

After seeing all the footage of Mad Max I got really excited for this game. I really hope Avalanche can pull of something extraordinary and make it a fantastic player experience.

I have no doubt it will loose against a big name like MGS and why they choose to release it the same time I don't know. Maybe they just have enough confidence in their product to leave it like that or it is not the cleverest marketing department. We will see :D

i don't know why but i lost interest in MGSV since a few months ago. so probably Mad Max for me, even though i'm not hyped about it.

I loved Just Cause 2 - it's easily in my top five games from the last generation - so when I heard that Avalanche were working on Mad Max I was immediately interested, but the gameplay videos from E3 were really disappointing. Maybe they chose the footage poorly and maybe the game won't be as bad as I thought it looked in the end, but for now I'm not excited for it.

But there was never any doubt that if I had to choose between it and MGS V that I'd choose MGS V, I've been a Metal Gear fan for 17 years now and even if I was new to the franchise, Ground Zeroes is an amazing demonstration of what to expect. I expect I'll be playing TPP for some time to come.

I'm generally not very fond of games that were spawned by movies or television serieses.

MGS it is, but MGS games trump most franchises for me, anyway.

As amazing as the latest Mad Max movies was, I doubt the game will be as good. MGS V all the way, no competition.

I was already afraid it would turn out like this

I have played MGS 1,2 and 3 but I was never blown away by it and I didn't understand the hype surrounding the series. I have to admit that MGS looks great and again story, history the caracters are pretty amazing. I just can't get excited gameplay wise.

However I think everyone is going to have loads of fun :D With MGS5 or with Mad Max

Metal Gear is one of my favorite video game franchises of all time and The Phantom Pain looks like it could be the best in the series but Mad Max looks like great fun as well. I'll be buying both but I'm buying The Phantom Pain on launch day (Collector's Edition) and Mad Max when it has been out a little while so I voted for Metal Gear Solid V.

It's funny you should say that, because I'm completely the opposite way around; having played every canonical Metal Gear game I find Hideo Kojima to be a massively overrated storyteller but he deserves all the praise he gets for the gameplay mechanics in his games. As far as gameplay goes, the guy is a genius and I do honestly believe he's unparalleled in that regard. As with practically every other Metal Gear game, I'll probably pay attention to the story once through but after that I'm going to skip everything I can skip to get to the juicy gameplay as quickly as possible.

I have no doubt in the talents of Hideo Kojima but it's just not the style I prefer or feel comfortable with. I think for gameplay mechanics I belong more to the "Platinum Games" group. Vanquish and Bayonetta were so addictive that I had difficulty with putting them down.

In the preview it was written that Mad Max comes close to the fighting mechanic of Batman. I don't know if that's a good or bad. Never played a Batman game in my life. But then we have the vehicle combat and that just seems to be greatly developed. Physics should be good according to the articles I read but also gameplaywise it should be lots of fun.

What were you expecting when you put one of the heavyweights of the industry up against a film tie-in from a fringe developer?

Well I don't know. The name Mad Max has quite a reputation and the developer has chosen to go a completely different route with the game. It bit of confidence can be given to them. Avalanche is a very decent developer and though it is not a true heavyweight I think they provide something really interesting and different. Warner is not bad as well with exception of their Batman on PC mess. Also the general audience maybe have more fresh memories of Mad Max than of MGS?

On a side note ;)

Only if you assume that the audience has no knowledge of video games. MGS V vs. Mad Mad is hardly Mayweather vs. Pacquiao - it's more like Mayweather vs. the guy at your gym who thinks his ability to bench press is incredible. There is no fight.

The devs of Mad Max are crazy if they think they can compete with MGSV, releasing it on the same day as MGSV is the reason I will be skipping the game, they will lose so many possible sales due to this big mistake.

I think they're safe.
One is tactical espionage and infiltration on the grandest scale it's ever been.
The other is open world vehicle combat.

Mind you, mgsv does that too.
If you want to play it that way.
But mad max has crazy outlandish psychotic characters.
Oh wait.
But mad max has explosions and customisable vehicles.....
Hang on...
But mad max has a massive open environment that you can explore at your own pace.
Hmmmm.
But mad max is Australian.

Phew.

:irked:👍

Mad Max seems cool, but it's the sort of game that I'll wait and see how it turns out before buying it. Could be good, could be not, I'll let others find that out for me.

MGSV is day one purchase. I know what I'm getting with MGS: interesting philosophical concepts, wacky storylines, and possibly the best gameplay of any game available.

I'm more interested in Just Cause 3 than Mad Max, so I guess I would preferrably buy MGSV.

I know what I'm getting with MGS

That part I agree, that you know what you will be getting. While Mad Max first has to prove itself in the world of gaming. It's clear that MGS will outsell Mad Max in September, but I really wonder where Mad Max will be at the end of the year.
