First off, let me repeat the thread title. This thread is for fans of Michael Schumacher only, I don't want any debates about his driving style or his past. Any off-topic posts will be reported as spam.

What I'd like is to ask Schumi fans who they plan to support now that he's leaving F1 at the end of the season? I'm leaning towards Raikkonen, I've always respected his speed and been an admirer of his driving style. If he didn't have such bad luck he'd have much better F1 career statistics than he does now. Hopefully next year we'll be able to see what he can really do in the Ferrari. Could he claim the drivers title in his debut year with the Scuderia? There are a couple of other drivers I'm going to be keeping my eye on and hoping they do well: Rubens Barrichello and Lewis Hamilton. Barrichello is the only teammate Schumacher ever had who could give him a serious run for his money and beat him on the track fair and square on a few occasions. It's a shame the Honda has been a bit of a donkey this year, hopefully next year'll be a little better. I don't know what there is to say about Lewis Hamilton. If you've seen him in GP2 that should be enough. I hope he goes for a year of testing first with McLaren rather than jumping straight into a race seat though. If he went into the McLaren race team and bombed in his first year it'd stay with him.

So, who are you going to follow now that Schumacher is leaving?

To begin with, I'm not a Schumacher fan, and as a result won't be voting in this poll. That's that out the way.

I presonally get the impression from the tifosi that they want Ferrari to win, not necessarily any particular driver (although MS will probably always have a special place in their hearts for the sucess he's helped bring to the team). So I think many will see Raikkonen as a successor to Schumacher, and support him accordingly; they've seen him at Mclaren, and know what he can do, so they'll be cheering him - and Massa - on fairly indiscriminately.

I first started watching F1 in 1996, and saw a British driver (Damon Hill) in a British car (Williams) win the championship. (At 10 years old, driver skilll ment jack to me, I just wanted the Brits to win.) After that, they went their seperate ways - Hill joined Arrows for 1997 - but I still supported both, until Hill retired. Then a young Somerset lad by the name of Jenson Button started racing, and I found a new Brit to support, all the while keeping my fingers crossed for Williams. I still like Williams more than any other team (although, sadly, they seem to be heading the way Tyrrell did), purely because it's the only team that I really remember from when I was a child.

Basically, long story short, I think that Schumacher fans will support Ferrari now, rather than any particular driver. And there's always Ralf.

i support almost all of the drivers :). i am just hoping for good battles. I'd like to see liuzzi and the rest of redbull/torro rosso get their **** togethere lol. :D

same with all the other teams that seem to be having problems with their cars wethere it be reliability or performance.

the great thing about shumacher is he is super hungry 99% of races. He wants to win so much that it over-rides his conscience sometimes. you guys know how it is when your having a tough battle and you think "if i just turned in a bit more i wouldnt have to fight him any more..."
or with blocking etc. :p

Coultard is the butt of so many jokes... i'd like to see him win more races.

As always, I will be supporting Ferrari, no matter who's behind the wheel..

Been a fan since 1979 when I watched my first televised race at the age of 6....

I always support the Brazilians so it's probably Barrichello and Massa, but I've always admired Schumacher's skill. The man is pratically a machine, although a bit rusted in the last couple of years.

I voted Kimi, not because he's replacing Michael, but because now that Juan Pablo has left, Kimi is the only 'ballsy' driver left out there. Fernando shows hints of it here and there, but he's no match for Kimi's raw 'On-The-Edge' driving style.

And also Roo is right, but there's nothing wrong with that. I'm a massive Schumacher & Ferrari fan, I was close to tears to hear of his departure, the guy has inspired so many people, his motivation to make Ferrari a winning team saw him leave Benneton F1 in 1995 after winning a championship and bring 75% of Bennetons staff with him.

He has given the Tifosi new life, and I feel that we owe it to him to respect his wishes and support his successor. 👍

I salute you SIR!

<<<<< Michael seems happy too ;)

I'm an Aussie, so my main support will be going to Mark Webber, who's been very unlucky this season, most with mechanical problems. Lets hope he can pull it together next year!

BMW team , and If Kubica gets a race seat (suerly he well) but mostly the BMW with no specific driver

It's a toss up between Alonso and Button..... Hmmm....... Buttonso!

And yes some will recognise my ugly mug........Welcome me back GTP WOOOOHOOOO!!!!! Rock N' Roll!!!!!!!!!

Are you, like, staying?

Anyway, I’m a Kimi fan regardless, so that doesn’t change at all.

Some things that I will be keeping a very close eye on will be how Hamilton stacks up next to Alonso, and by how much Kovalainen thrashes Fisico.

With Schumi gone i'm not even sure if i'll watch F1 anymore, I may have a look every now and then to see how Webber is doing.

I have Raikkonen in mind, but ofcourse I will never be as big of a fan of his than Schumi. I like massa as much as raikkonen, so maybe I will just be a fan of ferrari this year lol. :p

I voted 'other' and here's why:

I really just started following the sport at the beginning of the '05 season. I've missed a lot of things over the years. Typically, I am a fan of the underdog, so I followed closely Kimi Raikkonen's efforts that year to see if he could pull out the upset card at the end, despite his many retirements. It didn't happen, but I wasn't left screaming and throwing things at the TV because 'my' driver didn't win. I was just excited to see it go nearly to the wire nad left eager for the '06 season.

I did support Ferrari most of this time simply due to Italian roots, but also because of the hype surrounding the team in general. They had tyre problems all through the year, but there was always someone wondering what they were up to.

This year, I got more turned on to the team as they were competitive, so the hype only multiplied itself. With the battle being between Alonso and Schumacher, it was an easy decision to become a Schumacher fan -- there's just something about Alonso's personality and comments that've rubbed me the wrong way. Not that Schumacher's driving hasn't rubbed me the wrong way before (i.e., Monaco), but I think most people cry about these incidents for far too long. Anyway, it's got me itching to see Ferrari walk away with everything while Renault's left wondering when their candle blew out.

Next year, I'll be following Kimi again to see what he can do with (assuming Ferrari doesn't self-destruct in the absence of Schumacher) some reliable machinery. I'll also follow Massa and Kubica as they've both impressed me this year. As Small_Fryz mentioned that he'll be following Webber, I'll probably be doing the same. Such a shame to see so many retirements for him this year, because he is quick, but you can't score points from outside the cockpit.

Here's looking forward to the last three races and the '07 season.

While I've never been a fan of Schumacher, I have to say I hold a lot of respect for the man after he said he would not be going into the Brazilian Grand Prix hoping for Alonso to retire because he didn't want to end his career in such a way.
