As of May 1, we have adjusted recommended retailer pricing for our consoles and controllers worldwide. We also expect to adjust the pricing of some of our new, first-party games starting this holiday season to $79.99. Those titles purchased on the Xbox Store have the benefit of Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing players to buy once and play on console and PC at no additional cost.

We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and ensuring value for Xbox players.

For regional price increases follow the link. Well done America.

Are the consoles even selling to the point where a price hike would make sense?

I think it's less about the tariffs themselves and more about companies using tariffs as an excuse to raise their prices because it's something easy to blame. If they get too much pushback, they can simply lower the price and claim it as "absorbing the tariffs," when really they're back to making the same profit as before. Car companies are doing this right now with their employee pricing for everyone. They just jacked the price of new cars up and are now giving $3k off the sticker price but still selling it at an insane profit margin while the customer thinks they're getting a good deal.

As for $80 games? I'm sure that has absolutely nothing to do with Microsoft wanting to push Game Pass. Why buy an $80 game when you can pay $20 a month and get all these great games instead! I assume Game Pass will probably increase to $25 or $30 a month though, but still it's an easy sell to gamers and Microsoft will continue to rake in money.

I'm glad I mostly game on the PC. Yes, components are going up in price but as long as you're not buying AAA games you can still find fun games for less than $20.

The first time I've ever bought a console before a price drop has turned out its the cheapest that console has ever sold for. Madness...

I will no doubt be priced out of the next generation the way things are going.

Oh America, what have you done.. a once proud ally and friend now run by a buffoon who couldn’t have been planted better in Putins’ wildest dreams

I don't get how people don't see this. Over the last few years prices went up and up on groceries, first they blamed COVID then Russia/Ukraine. I watched prices go up every week on different products instead of all the products at the same time in order to hope people wouldn't just notice. These supermarkets made record profits. They were simply fleecing customers, absolutely disgraceful and I can't just eff them off as they're all doing it but it really pisses me off as I'm doing grocery shopping and see the prices.

Oh man... This inminent videogame crash is gonna be an amazing reality hit for these companies... :P
They should try charging more for games lol. They really thought they could just keep increasing the prices. 60 quid for a game was always too much for me to justify taking a chance on a game, I had to know it's a game I wanted. 40 quid is the right price for a game imo.
