Miller V16 Speedster 1931

In the late 1920s, Harry Miller assisted Errett Loban Cord with the front-wheel drive system for the Cord L29 road car. Part of his payment was a Cord L29, and not satisfied with the Lycoming engine, he constructed a V16 by placing two Miller Straight 8s at a 45-degree angle on a common crankcase. Either tired of modifying the Cord or out of necessity this engine ended up in a race car in 1931. With a few racing modifications Shorty Canton drove it at the Indy 500 but came in 27th place.
