Not posting for advice or anything...
When the wife complained that the computer was slow yesterday, I saw it as a good excuse to implement the hardware changes to it. So, I have ordered:
AMD Athlon 4800+ X2 (dual core, 2.4GHz, 2x 1MB cache)
2x 1GB Kingston PC3200 ValueRAM (formerly their HyperX range)
This will give me 3GB RAM, which will be enough for running my Virtual Machines properly, and for doing Photoshop work.
Total of £320 spent.
I also finally got my Dell PC working again. PIII/1000, 512MB RAM, 2x 300GB disk. It's now running Ubuntu 6.06 as a Samba server. Yes, it's my online backup device, and since I currently have 75GB photos on it, it's important.
So, am I great, or what? Form an orderly queue to praise me...
