Hello everybody, I'm asking for your help. My friend wants to build a small and future-proof PC for watching movies, browsing internet, music production/recording (he may need a lot of grunt for this task to prevent any latency issues!) and probably some photo/video editing too. His maximum budget is around 600 euros.

Here's what I've planned so far. Also here's a link to the site if you want to check if there's anything better for the money. :)

I would suggest a Blu-Ray burner/reader too, since you're going for future-proofing.

On anything else, I don't think I can set a finger. Future-proofing can be somewhat random; for example, 10 years ago fitting your computer with a >3GHz P4, all the RAM you could ( like 2-4 GB), and about 200GB HDD was quite kickass, but now, 2 or 3 gens later it can be considered about the same as an entry-level computer or laptop.
Now, I can't really think of another processor that pulled that off.

He said he will be just fine with the DVD-drive (he has a PS3 for blu-ray movies).

Thanks for your response, mate. :)

EDIT: Are the rear fans really needed for this build, I'm afraid the optical drive is going to block them? Or does this problem only occur with some longer blu-ray drives? 24cm - 17cm + 2,5cm = 4,5cm :dunce:

I bet he's going to enjoy this setup. :)

Might want to get a case and buy a PSU separately. 180w might not run everything.

The whole setup wouldn't use more than 100 watts when stressed to the maximum with Prime95 or something similar. The power supply offers 156 watts from the 12V line, so I would say it's well enough.

I was looking at the Thermaltake Element Q 220W but a review said it was hot and loud. Antec ISK 310-150 is too cramped, a bit expensive and has a weaker power supply.

Oh well, he suddenly got more money and decided to up the budget by a lot, buying the following for well over 800 euros:

Streacom ST-Nano150 150W NanoPSU + AC Adapter
Intel Core i5-3450S 2.8GHz quad-core processor
Scythe Kozuti Low Profile CPU Heatsink
ASRock H77M-ITX Mini-ITX motherboard
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile Blue DDR3 2x4GB 1600MHz CL9
Crucial m4 SSD 128GB, 2.5", SATA 6Gb/s
Sony Optiarc AD-7803H Slim (Slot) DVD-RW
Windows 7 64-bit SP1 OEM FI
