Hey, I didn't really have any plans this evening and wanted to shirk responsibility for a bit, so I took a late night drive to see what was at the local dealerships and thought I'd share.

First, I saw the new Mini! They're pretty cool, I thought, and some had the roof painted in a checkered flag pattern. I tried the door on one, found it was open, so I took a look inside. It's very roomy for such a small car, and the design is a bit funky.

For one, instead of a typical dash, there is a very large, round tach right abovh the steering wheel. The speedometer, also very large, is mounted in the center of the dash. The unlocked one was an automatic, though, so the main stress on the tach seemed a bit absurd. It has a nice, sports steering wheel, too.

Also while I was driving around, I saw three, three(!) used S2000s in dealer lots. I'm guessing some people who went through the hoops to actually get one (and most likely got gouged by the dealer) are having to take them back. I mean, I think I saw more at the dealers than I ever have on the roads. Anyway, the two that had prices marked were still near the car's list price. But one was "red tagged" at about $29,800. Indy Yellow. Too bad I didn't see a black one. (There was a used black RSX, though, That thing just came out!)

I also saw a lot of Z3s in the lots, and quite a few Miatas.

That's it. Not an earth-shattering post, but I thought someone may have an interest. If not, you already read it, so it's too late now.

You broke into a Mini?! You know they got you on tape....

And yea there are a lot of Miatas out, and a lot of people are turning their's in for the new Special Edition that's going to have only 15,000 copys, so they think that by selling their Miata now would help to get another one...

Thats not really considered "breaking in"

I just heard that we are getting some mini's over here. I wonder who they are selling with?

Their seeling them with BMW, cause BMW makes it under the mini name...I've seen acouple, even bought a Mini 1/18 scale model, it's sweet...

Deathhawk, if there's a BMW dealer close, take a look in the lot the next time you drive by. They might already be there. I just happened to pull in the lot and there they were.

Mazkid: yeah, the Miatas didn't surprise me, since they've been out for a while, have sold pretty well and I don't think there's been too much of a supply shortage (I could be wrong, though). But the S2000s? They're still pretty new and demand was far higher than the number they were shipping. At least that's what I thought. I'm thinking that's pretty much economic fallout.

Naw, Miatas have never had a shortage...I think that S2000s are being sold cause while they're fast, a lot of people want torque, and it really needs more...Also it could be that the ones you saw were the first release ones, and maybe the newer S2000s have better options and stuff...

The Mini will never be a Mini until its made by Rover again. OK, the new Mini is a great car, but at the end of the day, its a BMW, which as we all know is German. The Mini is a British car, always was, and I think it should have stayed that way. OK, we all know that Rover had to sell the brand as they were in so much financial trouble, but until it becomes a British car again, I doubt I'll buy one.

Naw, I think a Mini would never be a Mini again unless it was still made by BMC. And I like the new ones, but I would rather have the old style with new technology, like the last of the '00 models before they shut the plant down.
