MiniDV and Firewire question

I have a JVC MiniDV video camera with firewire output and i got a new PC with 3 firewire ports....i havent realy set it up yet but what do i need to capture my videos on the PC?

just software such as Microsoft video maker as in WinXP Pro? or do i need extra hardware?

i just want to make some MPGs from my videos...

and finally can i create DVDs from these videos using my IDE DVD burner drive?

okay, thanks for your input but i got it working...

its all plug and play....just fire the camera into the caputre card and movie maker 2 just starts up and ask you if you want to record....it even controls your video camera remotely through the firewire cable...

it works!!..
